Description

The company is a security-first enterprise AI firm that builds foundation models and end-to-end products aimed at real business problems.

It trains and deploys frontier models for enterprises building AI systems, and it sees its work as central to wider AI adoption.

The team is made up of researchers, engineers, designers and others who care deeply about their craft.

Headquarters are in Toronto, with offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul.

The Generative Machine Learning organization is growing, and it needs more Technical Program Managers. TPMs here act as operational experts who run cross-functional work, moving between hands-on execution and big-picture strategy with senior leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Create and improve the core processes that help the Generative Modeling teams execute faster, better and more predictably.
  • With the Modeling TPM lead, grow the team's operational capacity so it stays lean as the program portfolio rapidly grows in size and complexity.
  • Move between multi-quarter or multi-year programs and short, unclear challenges that can affect the whole company.
  • Work directly with leaders inside and outside Modeling on designing, training and improving the core generative models.
  • Lead company-wide, cross-functional programs and strategic initiatives with Product, Engineering, Legal, Platform, Infra, Policy and Finance.
  • Improve engineering execution rigor and day-to-day operations, and help shape long-term planning with senior modeling leadership.
  • Map dependencies and risks, keep cross-functional work on track, and report status to technical and non-technical stakeholders and senior management.
  • Own and support the flow of priorities, ideas and knowledge across Modeling and beyond it, in line with your programs.
  • React quickly to program changes, define new scope and adjust resources as priorities shift.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years as a Technical Program Manager and 5+ years working directly on AI/ML.
  • A strong preference for people who have built foundation models.
  • In-depth knowledge of machine learning, especially natural language processing and large language models.
  • Bonus points for experience with multimodal AI.
  • Experience working in chaotic, fast-paced, low-structure settings.
  • Pragmatic, willing to get hands-on when needed, and able to work at both the tactical and strategic level to make the models succeed.
  • A firsthand understanding of how managing AI/ML programs differs from traditional software program management.
  • Experience managing projects that need solid business acumen, such as working with Finance on reporting or Policy on regulatory compliance. The broader your experience beyond ML program management, the better.
  • Optional, but preferred: hands-on technical experience. Model training experience is not required, but you should be comfortable working alongside leading researchers on complex, cutting-edge ML problems.
  • If your experience falls short somewhere other than ML TPM work, still apply. Thoughtful, lifelong learners who are kind and playful with their team are a good fit.

Conditions

Remote-first, with candidates hired from anywhere in the world, though the company is prioritizing people within 1-2 hours of British Standard Time (BST).

The company welcomes applicants of all backgrounds and is committed to equal opportunity in hiring and at work.

Benefits

  • Weekly lunch stipend of $75/£75 or the local currency equivalent.
  • Full health and dental coverage, plus a separate mental health budget.
  • RRSP matching, 401K and a pension scheme.
  • 100% parental leave top-up for up to 6 months, for either parent.
  • Annual enrichment budget for arts and culture, fitness and wellness, quality time, and a workspace improvement credit.
  • Education and learning stipend for conferences, courses and coaching.
  • 6 weeks of paid vacation (30 working days).
  • Travel budget to other offices for remote employees, plus an annual company offsite.
  • $500 home office stipend.
  • Co-working benefit for remote employees who are not near an office.
  • In the office: a daily lunch program, plenty of snacks, and regular community and social events.
