Description

The company works on new medical technology that combines computers and robots in interventions. You would join its Future Forward Research group, which tests promising technologies for future products and applications.

As a Staff Systems Analyst, you would design and build the controllers and algorithms used to evaluate new instrument concepts and visualization approaches on the company's current surgical robots or new platforms.

You would also give analytic support to other engineering groups on system design, software architecture, and interfaces, and stay current on research into secure telerobotic and safety-critical systems so you can apply it to your designs.

Responsibilities

  • You will own the system software, algorithm work, supporting tools, and infrastructure used to explore and build new surgical platforms.
  • Develop and check distributed electro-mechanical systems and dynamic models through targeted experiments.
  • Write software algorithms, tools, and infrastructure for new products.
  • Combine mechanical, hardware, and software components into new product designs.
  • Apply control system design methods to prototype and validate new medical robotic systems.
  • Run thorough testing, safety analysis, and performance monitoring across the full development cycle.
  • Lead early systems engineering work, turn requirements into technical specifications, and drive cross-functional discussions.
  • Design sensor and control schemes that improve robot performance and meet user needs.
  • Follow software engineering best practices and write detailed documentation.
  • Find, record, and share intellectual property created during development.

Requirements

  • Strong theory and hands-on skill in robot manipulator kinematics, control systems from classical through modern, teleoperation, and related algorithms.
  • A proven track record of integrating and characterizing complete mechatronic systems.
  • Experience designing teleoperation algorithms and real-time embedded software.
  • Proficiency in Matlab and C/C++, plus experience with higher-level languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Thorough understanding of teleoperation systems, software, and interfaces for building reliable, mission-critical solutions.
  • Skill in profiling, debugging, and optimizing system software, with a disciplined and persistent approach to problems.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Able to work well in a focused team, bringing a collaborative and positive attitude.
  • Deep understanding of software engineering principles and methods.
  • A graduate degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, or control systems engineering, or a similar field related to robotics or electro-mechanical systems.
  • At least 7 years of servo control systems development for robotics or electro-mechanical systems, with hands-on implementation.
  • Plus: knowledge of electrical and mechanical design principles and CAD tools.
  • Plus: experience with computer vision processing pipelines and real-time implementation.

Conditions

The company may require current proof of vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID-19. Requirements can vary by role.

Some roles may be subject to U.S. Export Administration Regulations (15 CFR §743.13(b)) for prospective employees who are nationals of countries under embargo or sanctions. The company will review your application to decide whether it must obtain an export license (which can take 3 to 6+ months) or put a Technology Control Plan (TCP) in place, which typically adds 2 weeks.

For export-controlled roles, any offer depends on an approved export license and/or an executed TCP before your start date. That timing may or may not be flexible and will not unreasonably delay hiring. You will be told of any steps that apply.

Preference goes to qualified candidates who do not reside, or plan to reside, in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, or Tennessee.

The role may be filled at a different job level than listed, depending on business need and the selected candidate's experience, knowledge, and skills.

Pay depends mainly on the job level the role is filled at and the candidate's qualifications, consistent with applicable law.

Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered in line with fair chance laws.
