Description

The infrastructure team keeps the platform behind every company product fast and reliable. That platform covers the live application, managed database services, data stores, pipelines and internal tools that members and engineers depend on.

This is a senior individual contributor role with a backend focus, paying $215,000 - $295,000. You will own infrastructure areas that cut across several squads, work with frontend and backend engineers across the company, and set technical direction for keeping the platform quick, resilient and secure. You will have wide influence over engineering without managing a team.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the uptime and speed of core services and data stores, across several squads.
  • Drive regional resilience work, including multi-region operation and failover.
  • Work with frontend and backend engineers to locate slow points in services, data stores and the network, then fix them.
  • Plan and carry out service and database migrations with no downtime.
  • Keep the data pipelines that carry production data between services and stores reliable and fast.
  • Improve the shared tools for building, deploying and operating services, including agentic tooling that speeds up and secures this work.
  • Lead the response to infrastructure incidents and make sure postmortem actions are completed.
  • Set technical direction through design reviews, and explain tradeoffs to engineers, product partners and leadership.
  • Raise the quality of other engineers' work through design review, pairing and mentoring.
  • Work with Security and Compliance to meet the standards expected of a regulated financial services company.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software or infrastructure engineering with a backend focus, including 3+ years running production infrastructure that several teams depend on.
  • You have already led regional resilience projects (multi-region, failover or disaster recovery) and application performance projects in production.
  • You have built and run Java backend services and shared libraries.
  • You have run MongoDB in production at scale, covering performance tuning, indexing, replication, capacity planning and upgrades.
  • You have run production Kubernetes clusters on a cloud provider, including upgrades, autoscaling and multi-cluster setups. The company runs GKE, and deep experience on another cloud is welcome.
  • You have deployed infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform.
  • You have used observability tools for metrics, tracing, logging and alerting, and have led incident response with them. The company uses Datadog.
  • You have built or operated data pipelines that move production data.
  • You have hands-on experience with agentic tooling, such as AI coding agents or MCP servers.
  • You communicate clearly in writing and in person, write clear RFCs, and lead cross-team decisions through influence rather than authority.
  • You have profiled applications, for example with JVM profiling, flame graphs or continuous profiling.
  • You understand cloud networking: VPC design, private connectivity, load balancing, DNS and service mesh.
  • You have worked in fintech or regulated financial services, with compliance such as SOC 2 or PCI DSS.
  • You know cloud security: IAM, workload identity, network policies, pod security and secrets management.
  • You hold a cloud or Kubernetes certification, such as Google Professional Cloud Architect, AWS Solutions Architect or CKA.
  • You have experience with Google Cloud, including GKE.
