Description

The team is approachable, kind and driven. It sets high standards, values teamwork and works to keep work and life in balance.

The company is growing fast on a global scale and works to widen equity and opportunity both inside the company and beyond it.

Success here means raising your own bar and the bar for those around you. You act with autonomy, take accountability and stay open to other views.

Curiosity and a willingness to share varied personal interests keep the culture balanced and lively.

The company provides a customer engagement platform for brands, covering cross-channel messaging, journey orchestration, and AI-driven decisioning and optimization. Its headquarters are in New York, with offices in Austin, Berlin, Bucharest, Chicago, Dubai, Jakarta, London, Paris, San Francisco, São Paulo, Singapore, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo.

If you enjoy hard problems, act quickly when things change, and want to make a real impact alongside a sharp, driven team, this role could suit you.

Responsibilities

  • This is a hands-on technical leadership role on the User Targeting team, which decides how customers segment and target their users.
  • Every message the company sends runs through pipelines that handle billions of users each day. The team moves fast, works close to customers, and owns a core, high-impact part of the product.
  • You will build and own complex systems end to end: the segmentation engine, data pipelines, APIs and the customer dashboard, at the scale of some of the largest brands in the world. You help set both what the team builds and how it builds it. Architecture, performance and cost always matter, but you are judged on the value delivered to customers.
  • Design and build large-scale services that process huge data volumes and complex workloads in real time, including extending the ClickHouse pipeline with new filters and attributes.
  • Work with product to decide what to build and why, then keep improving features after launch based on how customers use them.
  • Take ownership of the complex backend behind segmentation, raising its performance, reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Coach engineers on software design, coding and operations, setting an example in your own work.
  • Partner with other engineering teams, product managers and stakeholders so segmentation fits well with the rest of the platform and business goals.
  • Look for ways to improve systems, evaluate new technologies and push for adoption when it makes sense.
  • Improve operational practice, including alerts, on-call rotation and troubleshooting playbooks, to keep the system stable and high quality.
  • The team uses AI heavily every day. Agentic tools help it work through the large Ruby monolith, build proofs of concept, and move from a request to a working solution quickly and safely. AI supports every stage of product delivery, helping the team deliver better results faster.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on full-stack or back-end work, ideally on high-scale, high-throughput systems.
  • You have shipped customer-facing products on high-scale data systems, from defining the problem through launch and adoption, and can show what customers or the business gained.
  • You have built foundational data-driven systems at scale, such as streaming systems, real-time pipelines or large data platforms.
  • You drive architecture, scope large efforts and manage technical debt well. You explain complex technical ideas clearly and take on major technical initiatives.
  • You understand software design, data structures and algorithms well.
  • You work independently, communicate and organise well, and do well in team settings.
  • Bonus points: familiarity with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Sidekiq, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Bonus points: experience with MongoDB, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or other data lake tools.
  • Bonus points: experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Bonus points: experience with distributed systems, API design, monitoring and good engineering practice.
  • Bonus points: passion for customer experience.
