Description

You will work with technology and business teams to design, build, and roll out data, software, and technology solutions for significant scientific or business problems.

You will look for current technology platforms that can raise productivity and efficiency in your own function and across several business areas.

You will help move technology forward in your area of expertise and build working relationships with groups in many disciplines.

Each engineer is assigned to one area: information, software, data, or infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy data, software, or technology solutions by gathering information needs, talking with users, mapping system flows, data use, and work processes, and examining problem areas. Bring initiative and creativity to each solution.
  • Act as the technical expert or lead projects, programs, and technical staff to build, test, and launch significant new products or operational improvements, or to find new approaches to problems across the division or business unit.
  • Work through technical problems with analytical methods and their supporting tools and devices.
  • Stay current on tools, techniques, and computing equipment in your function, and take part in training and professional groups.
  • Work competently across many technologies and platforms, including software design and development, programming languages, data integration, data warehousing, analysis and visualization tools, data storage, network connectivity, and virtualization or cloud environments.
  • Work independently with little direction or day-to-day contact with your supervisor. Own the full project scope and budget, and deliver on time and within budget, for all tasks and projects under your direct or matrix control.
  • Open new lines of investigation when they are meaningful, reliable, and can feed straight into a scientific or business activity.
  • Lead technically, and mentor and advise less experienced staff on planning, methods, procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Manage relationships with affiliates, subsidiaries, and vendors in line with the company's values, Vendor Management Office, and Purchasing processes.
  • Follow corporate and divisional policies, including the code of conduct, safety, GxP compliance, data security, and the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 6 years of experience, Master's degree with 5 years of experience, or PhD with 0 years of experience.
  • Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of your discipline.
  • A record of creative technology solutions that moved the business forward.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Preferred: DevOps experience on AWS.
  • Preferred: full stack experience with Python,.Net, or Node.js.
  • Preferred: experience mentoring others, in current or past roles.

Conditions

Where state or local law requires pay disclosure, the posted base pay range is the company's good-faith estimate for this role at posting, based on its job grade. Actual pay within the range depends on factors including geographic location, and may fall above or below it. The range may change.

Open to applicants in the US and Puerto Rico only.

The company is an equal opportunity employer that welcomes applicants regardless of protected status, including veterans and people with disabilities.

Benefits

  • Paid time off covering vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(k), for eligible employees.
  • Eligibility for short-term incentive programs.
