You will lead architecture for the events technology group inside the digital marketing technology organization. That group runs the company's own web presence and its flagship and regional events, from registration and agendas to badge check-in, live streaming and post-event video.
You report to the VP of Engineering and act as the strategic partner to product leads, engineering and event marketing.
The role is a Software Engineering Architect position in Software Engineering.
Responsibilities
Set the architecture direction for the events portfolio and keep its systems integrated and consistent, including registration, attendee management, agenda builders, badge and check-in, capacity and waitlists, AI agents, identity, data platform, journey orchestration, messaging, event web apps, headless content, knowledge graphs, federated GraphQL and streaming analytics.
Build quick working prototypes of new technologies, such as deterministic agent workflows for check-in or session recommendations, to inform leadership and set patterns for teams, without becoming a blocker for live event delivery.
Raise the bar for the wider engineering group by setting standards, running design reviews and clearing cross-team blockers before high-traffic moments like registration launches, keynotes and check-in peaks.
Work as a peer with architects in adjacent areas and build agreement on standards without direct management authority.
Partner with product leads to match technical work to event and roadmap calendars that run 3-4 quarters ahead.
Coordinate with architects across the wider digital enterprise technology group on shared initiatives and patterns so event technology stays aligned with enterprise standards.
Use the company's own events as a test bed and send detailed feedback on APIs, limits and capabilities to product teams before external customers see them.
Requirements
12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
5+ years in an architecture role designing distributed systems at enterprise scale.
Experience architecting solutions across several domains, including data platforms, AI agents, marketing journey orchestration, identity, content management and event or registration platforms.
Direct experience with registration, attendee management, agenda tooling or ticketing, ideally for thousands to tens of thousands of concurrent attendees against fixed event dates.
Able to read and write code and configuration to validate designs, build proofs of concept and debug integration issues under event deadline pressure.
Proven record of influencing product leads and engineering directors and VPs, and explaining trade-offs between long-term health and speed to meet event dates.
Expert knowledge of the company's platform, especially data ingestion patterns and agent architectures.
Experience building microservices on public cloud that handle event-day traffic spikes, using AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, SNS, SQS, ElastiCache and AppSync.
Experience building conversational agents, copilots or autonomous agents for attendees, and familiarity with large language models.
Experience building integrations and pipelines for AWS SageMaker.
Experience with high-volume data streams such as Kafka or Kinesis, especially for real-time event and check-in data.
Knowledge of DynamoDB and of graph databases such as Neo4j or Neptune.
Experience with agile delivery and DevOps practices, strong CI/CD knowledge, and experience diagnosing problems in distributed services, including load and scale testing before a major event.
Experience mentoring lead engineers.
Ability to judge a problem and pick the technology that serves the attendee and the customer best.
Clear verbal and written communication with both event marketing and technical stakeholders.
Hands-on fluency with AI tools such as LLMs and copilots for coding, debugging and design work in your daily routine, plus working knowledge of prompt engineering and agent orchestration, with experience designing and evaluating AI-driven systems.
Even better if: you have moved a legacy service-provider model to a product-led engineering organization.
Even better if: you have worked with federated GraphQL architectures.
Even better if: you have a background in event technology, digital marketing or adtech, especially large conference or field-event platforms.
Even better if: you have worked on on-site event technology such as badge printing and scanning, kiosk check-in, mobile event apps and real-time capacity or session-fill monitoring.
