Responsibilities
Set the strategy for secure, simple customer sign-in across the web and the native mobile app, and work with the vehicle team so that it supports in-car experiences.
Lead the shift to passwordless, progressive sign-in, covering passkeys (FIDO2/WebAuthn), biometrics, handoff from the mobile app to the vehicle, mobile number as identity, persistent sessions, and adaptive or risk-based authentication.
Work with engineering, IAM and cybersecurity, UX and design, program management, legal and privacy across web, mobile and vehicle groups to deliver one consistent sign-in experience, so a customer is recognized securely in every interaction with web, mobile, vehicle and dealer.
Own authentication, the first step in every customer interaction, and guide the move to a modern, passwordless, unified identity model for millions of customers.
Own the product vision and roadmap for sign-in across web, mobile and vehicle, tied to the Account & Identity strategy and the path to one passwordless ecosystem.
Lead rollout of passkeys, biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID, device PIN), app-to-vehicle handoff, sign in with phone, silent re-authentication, and adaptive or risk-based checks.
Track market trends, competitor moves and standards such as FIDO Alliance guidance, NIST SP 800-63B-4, GDPR and CCPA, so the company's sign-in matches leading platforms such as Apple ID.
Set and deliver product goals: higher sign-in success, less MFA friction, lower password-related support costs, and wider use of low-friction methods on web, mobile and vehicle.
Turn the roadmap into prioritized plans, milestones and dependencies, and report progress to stakeholders, including executives.
Work with Account Creation, Identity Strategy, Product Sharing, Vehicle Product Management, OnStar, Loyalty, eCommerce, engineering, design, Legal and Privacy so sign-in fits the whole customer journey.
Make sure sign-in meets security, privacy and regulatory requirements, including FIDO2/WebAuthn, NIST guidance, GDPR, CCPA and internal cybersecurity and privacy policy.
Run threat modeling and security design reviews with Cybersecurity and Privacy, building in resistance to phishing, credential stuffing and account takeover.
Apply privacy by design: keep personal data in sign-in flows to a minimum, respect customer consent, and let customers control their registered methods (passkeys, biometrics, MFA).
Define and manage sign-in KPIs and SLOs, including success rate, sign-in duration, passkey adoption, MFA enrollment, fallback use and error rates.
Be the main voice for sign-in strategy, explaining vision, roadmap, progress and trade-offs to engineers, designers and senior leaders through data-backed written narratives and roadmap presentations.
Act as the subject-matter expert on modern authentication, teaching stakeholders the standards and the path to one passwordless identity ecosystem.
Align decisions with the CDI platform, vehicle engineering, GM Customer Identity Fabric (GMCIF) and third-party identity providers such as Microsoft Entra External ID.
