Staff Applications Engineer

Responsibilities

• Support the application, design and sale of advanced HVAC chiller systems, including for commercial and mission-critical sites such as data centers.
• Serve as a key technical partner to sales, engineering and product teams, turning customer requirements into safe, robust and optimized electrical designs.
• Give pre-sale electrical engineering support to internal sales staff and external customers.
• Develop and review electrical designs for chiller applications, covering power distribution layouts, one-line diagrams and control schematics, and equipment interfaces and integration.
• Apply and interpret NEC, UL and other applicable regulatory codes so that solutions are compliant.
• Carry out detailed engineering calculations, including wire sizing and ampacity, overcurrent protection, short circuit analysis, and sizing of breakers, fuses, transformers and contactors.
• Support motor control applications using VFDs, soft starters and across-the-line starters.
• Work with product engineering, contract engineering and manufacturing to make sure electrical designs are built correctly.
• Review project specifications and propose customized electrical solutions that meet customer needs.
• Troubleshoot field electrical problems, commissioning issues and compliance questions.
• Advise on power quality, grounding, harmonics and system protection strategies.
• Write and maintain technical documentation, standards and application tools.
• Train internal teams and field personnel and give them technical guidance.
• Work with suppliers on electrical component selection and cost estimates.
• Contribute to product development with a focus on electrical architecture and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of refrigeration systems.
• Ability to travel up to 20% for factory visits, customer site visits and field training visits.
• Commercial HVAC industry experience is preferred but not required.

Conditions

Onsite role at the Advanced Development and Engineering Center in New Freedom, PA. San Antonio, TX is an alternative location.

You should live within commuting distance of either site or be willing to relocate. Various relocation packages are available.

Hiring salary range: $110,000 - $150,000, set by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, internal equity and market data.
