Staff Application Engineer (hybrid)

Description

The company makes thermal management and mission-critical building systems and energy efficiency and decarbonization products for data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing and higher education.

It has operated for more than 140 years and serves customers with technology, lifecycle services and a large field organization.

This staff role sits in the data center chiller business and affects how well that business performs.

Responsibilities

• Give pre-sale technical help to branch office staff and to sales and marketing colleagues in export markets who sell chillers.
• Answer system-level application questions and prepare special quotations.
• Support order execution by working with the order management and contract engineering teams.
• Obtain supplier quotes to price special product requests and state lead times.
• Work with the chiller product team to track new development and keep up with current and legacy products still in their life cycle.
• Advise field sales on applying and installing chillers in HVAC systems, including creative solutions for unusual customer needs and using competitor knowledge.
• Design and tailor chiller systems for data centers to achieve good cooling efficiency and energy use.
• Help build tools, documentation and automated processes for common questions.
• Use internal engineering systems and documents to answer product detail questions.
• Track emerging technologies and industry trends and recommend ways to improve chiller reliability, scalability and sustainability.
• Help sales staff resolve equipment, job and code challenges.
• Keep sales, design engineers and product managers aligned so customer requirements are understood and responses go out efficiently.
• Maintain broad knowledge of the company's and competitors' products, markets, regulations and technology and how they affect the business.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• 10+ years of experience, preferably in HVAC or chiller technology.
• Knowledge of refrigeration principles and the equipment that goes with them.

Conditions

Hybrid role based in San Antonio, TX or New Freedom, PA.

Relocation packages are available.

Travel of up to 15% for factory visits, customer site visits and field training.

Target pay range is $100,000 - $140,000. Actual pay depends on education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity and market data.
