Description

The company makes memory and storage products, and the research lab is looking for an experienced technical leader to run external research programs with ecosystem partners.

You will work with universities, national laboratories, consortia and industry partners to find, shape and drive research that supports the lab's long-term priorities in memory and semiconductor technology, from materials and devices through packaging, architectures and AI/compute systems.

This is a program management role and the main technical link between the lab, the company's technology teams and the global research community.

Candidates with deep expertise in DRAM, NAND, and/or semiconductor system solutions are welcome, including memory architectures, devices, materials, process, packaging, memory-centric systems and AI/compute.

Job level and title depend on your experience, scope and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Write and publish solicitations for defined technical challenges that match the lab's research agenda and themes.
  • Find and contact university research groups around the world who could take part in those solicitations.
  • Assess submitted proposals on technical merit and fit with lab priorities, and work with the lab's technical leads, legal, procurement and finance teams through selection and award.
  • Build relationships with university teams in fields relevant to the lab's agenda, keeping them tied to strategic research priorities.
  • Arrange partnerships with national laboratories, startups, consortia and other key ecosystem partners where they fit lab priorities.
  • Own each sponsored project end to end, covering scope, schedule, budget, outputs, dependencies, risks, decisions and results.
  • Report progress and outcomes to lab leadership, share findings with research and pathfinding teams, and assess IP, publication and technology transfer opportunities.
  • Lead proposals from kickoff through closeout, including contracting, compliance, delivery, reporting and budgets, with legal, finance, procurement, government affairs and export compliance teams.
  • Work with research, technology development, product, engineering and business groups so external programs deliver measurable value.
  • Support talent engagement such as faculty involvement, graduate research and internships.
  • Coordinate work across global regions and time zones.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree with 7+ years, or a master's degree with 5+ years, of relevant experience in electrical engineering, materials science, applied physics, chemical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or a related field, including hands-on semiconductor R&D, technology development or research.
  • Proven technical depth across memory and semiconductor research or development, covering devices, materials, process, packaging, memory architecture and AI/compute systems.
  • Experience running sponsored research and technical collaborations with universities, national laboratories, startups, government-funded research organizations and industry consortia.
  • Skill in judging technical proposals and explaining complex topics to technical and executive audiences.
  • Experience using generative AI and other AI tools to support technical analysis, research evaluation, engineering documentation and program work, while critically checking the outputs.
  • Project leadership: you can lead independently, influence matrixed teams and present to executives.
  • Preferred: publications, patents or recognized technical contributions.
  • Preferred: knowledge of research funding mechanisms, IP protection, export compliance and technology transfer.
  • Preferred: experience building relationships across academia, government laboratories, industry research organizations or innovation ecosystems.
