Sr Principal Embedded Software Engineer

The company is the company Mission Systems, and this role sits in its software technologies organization in Baltimore, MD.

The team is part of an enterprise-wide digital transformation and builds software for mission systems across every phase of the development lifecycle, mainly in C/C++.

The work uses model-based engineering, DevSecOps and Agile methods to deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, develop and change existing software, using current development techniques.
• Find risks, propose mitigations, track defects, develop fixes and report status.
• Design and build software, run unit tests, write build verification test plans and track test results.
• Work with engineers from several disciplines to test and verify software on simulators and production hardware in the System Integration Laboratories.
• Research and assess new technologies before they are adopted.
• Take an active part in technical peer, design, architecture and system reviews, confirming that system and software requirements are met end to end.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related STEM field, plus 8 years of related experience.
• US citizenship.
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance and Special Program Access (SAP), and to keep both for as long as you are employed.
• 6 years of C/C++ experience.
• 6 years of real-time embedded software experience.
• 6 years across the full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging and maintenance.
• Preferred: experience in algorithm development and optimization.
• Preferred: experience in Electronic Warfare, Built in Test or calibrations.
• Preferred: experience with VxWorks and/or Linux.
• Preferred: experience with Visual Studio.
• Preferred: experience with Matlab.
• Preferred: experience with Coverity, SonarQube and/or Clockwork.
• Preferred: experience with Open Architecture Solutions.
• Preferred: experience with the Atlassian tool set, Kubernetes, model-based engineering and DevSecOps best practices.

Conditions

Base salary range for this role is $135,800.00 to $203,600.00, as a general guide. Final offers depend on scope, responsibilities, your experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

The role is based in Baltimore, MD.

Travel is required about 10% of the time.
