Description

The Space Vehicles team in the space sector of the company's Space and Defense Group designs and builds systems that survive the harsh conditions of space travel. The team is growing and works on satellite buses, orbital maneuvering vehicles (OMVs), space tugs, and related systems. It combines experienced industry engineers with early-career staff and values collaboration, technical excellence, and mentorship.

This role is based in Arvada, CO, on a 9/80 hybrid schedule. The office is at the foot of the Front Range, about 10 minutes from Golden and Arvada and easy to reach from much of the Denver metro area.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and verify real-time embedded flight software for spacecraft buses, OMVs, and other space vehicles in C/C++ and Python.
  • Lead technical work on projects: set architecture and design direction, define software interfaces, and run design reviews.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and help raise the team's skills and practices.
  • Develop and maintain software for VxWorks and Linux targets across different toolchains and cross-compilation environments.
  • Build and maintain software simulators and automated test frameworks for integration and regression testing.
  • Plan, run, and document unit, integration, and system-level tests, and support continuous integration and test automation.
  • Troubleshoot and debug software alongside spacecraft hardware and systems engineers.
  • Review software requirements, specifications, and code, and give constructive feedback.
  • Work with hardware, avionics, guidance/navigation/control, and systems experts in an Agile environment.
  • Move between programs as priorities require.

Requirements

  • A BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including embedded systems. 8+ years of relevant professional experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Proven experience programming in C/C++ or a similar embedded language.
  • Proficiency in Python for tools, test automation, or scripting.
  • Experience with VxWorks (Wind River), Greenhills, or an equivalent real-time OS, with a solid grasp of real-time concepts and deterministic scheduling.
  • Experience developing and debugging on Linux hosts and targets.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture, OS fundamentals, networking protocols, and inter-process communication.
  • Nice to have: experience with avionics or spacecraft flight software architectures and standards.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with cross-compilation toolchains, BSPs, device drivers, and hardware bring-up.
  • Nice to have: experience with CI/CD, automated test frameworks, and Git-based version control.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of telemetry, command and control, and spacecraft bus subsystems.
  • Nice to have: experience writing software requirements and taking part in system-level trade studies.
