Description

The team is hiring an AI Engineer or Applied AI Scientist to design, build and deploy Generative AI systems at enterprise scale, with the goal of speeding up scientific, regulatory and business work.

You will create applications that run on large language models (LLMs), retrieval systems, knowledge graphs, agent-based workflows and advanced analytics. Day to day, you will partner with data scientists, statisticians, software engineers, domain experts and business stakeholders to turn complicated scientific and operational data into AI tools that can run in production.

The role sits in the R&D organization. The team also does applied research, so you may have the chance to co-author scientific papers and present at conferences.

The company is digitizing drug discovery and development, and this team is part of that effort.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and ship Generative AI applications using current LLM frameworks and tools.
  • Create retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines that help employees find enterprise knowledge.
  • Build agentic workflows for document handling, scientific applications and research support.
  • Connect AI services and third-party APIs to enterprise platforms and production applications.
  • Write dependable, maintainable Python code for applications and services built around AI.
  • Test AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub and the company's internal tools, to speed up application work.
  • Assess new AI models, tools and frameworks for their fit with real business problems.
  • Take part in applied research, including scientific publications and conference submissions.
  • Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to turn business and scientific needs into working AI solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative or technical field.
  • Industry, academic or research experience in software development, machine learning, data science or AI. A BSc with about 3 years of experience or an MSc with about 1 year is acceptable.
  • Python programming skills.
  • Working knowledge of core Generative AI concepts and architectures, including LLMs, RAG and AI agents.
  • Ability to build and refine technical prototypes on your own and turn ideas into working solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Preferred: experience designing or integrating REST APIs.
  • Preferred: experience with React or another modern front-end framework.
  • Preferred: experience with vector or SQL databases.
  • Preferred: experience with Git and GitHub workflows.
  • Preferred: experience with Linux environments.
  • Preferred: experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.
  • Preferred: experience with LLM evaluation, observability or testing.
  • Preferred: experience with Docker and containerized applications.
  • Preferred: experience in scientific, healthcare, pharmaceutical or other regulated environments.
  • Values: you take ownership of your work and, with the right support and context, can turn ideas into prototypes and solutions.
  • Values: you adapt quickly, learn new models, tools and frameworks, and apply them practically, since Generative AI changes fast.
  • Values: you are curious and like to experiment with new technologies without waiting to be told what to try.
  • Values: you communicate clearly and work well with colleagues from scientific, statistical, engineering and business backgrounds.
  • Values: you enjoy the work, collaborate openly and do not take yourself too seriously.
