Lead AI Engineer

Description

The role is a client-facing AI leadership position in the enterprise solutions group, serving public and private sector clients.

You will own delivery of GenAI, LLM and machine learning (ML) solutions from start to finish, and build and lead a team of AI and ML engineers.

Your technical skills matter as much as your ability to handle complex stakeholder groups, set expectations and keep business and technology teams aligned.

You will be the main AI and ML contact for key accounts, presenting to C-level executives, running workshops and shaping adoption roadmaps.

The work centres on designing and building advanced GenAI and ML pipelines and leading a technical team that builds creative applications beyond current tools, with solutions that are scalable, reusable, extensible and flexible.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary AI and ML adviser to key enterprise clients, understand their business challenges and turn them into AI and ML solutions with measurable value.
• Lead and grow a team of AI and ML engineers, working with MLOps and DevOps specialists to design, build and optimise ML and GenAI architectures for client use cases and requirements.
• Manage relationships with stakeholders across several concurrent projects, covering steering committees, progress reporting and escalations.
• Design and oversee end-to-end ML and GenAI pipelines and deliver AI applications for major client transformation projects in the region and internationally.
• Coach team members, identify skill gaps and create individual development plans.
• Run client workshops, discovery sessions and technical presentations to shape AI strategy and drive adoption.
• Set the GenAI, LLM and ML strategy across people, technology, methods, platforms and processes, and build a culture of technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in AI, data science, machine learning, computer science, engineering, operational research or a related field. A PhD in operational research is preferred.
• Have 6+ years in AI or ML engineering with a record of taking AI projects from concept to production in enterprise or consulting settings, including at least 2 years in people management or practice leadership.
• Have a proven record of managing client relationships, running workshops and presenting technical solutions to senior non-technical audiences such as C-level executives, board members and steering committees.
• Have experience leading and developing teams, including hiring, performance management and career development.
• Have strong expertise in ML and GenAI solutions, including open source frameworks, RAG architectures, prompt engineering, LLMs (Claude, GPT, Gemini) and production deployment patterns.
• Have a solid grasp of MLOps, AI model lifecycle management and Model Context Protocol (MCP), and experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
• Have hands-on experience with open source ML and AI frameworks, agentic AI technologies, prompt engineering and leading LLMs (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Nvidia AI stack).
• Nice to have: experience in consulting, systems integration or professional services.
• Nice to have: experience with AIOps practices, LLM monitoring frameworks and AI governance.
• Nice to have: knowledge of ML and GenAI frameworks such as LlamaIndex and LangGraph, and of AI evaluation tools.
• Nice to have: pre-sales or business development experience in AI or data services.

The role is hybrid, with office time at one of three modern offices in Athens.
