Sr AI Engineer, Platform

The company makes memory and storage solutions and operates in the semiconductor industry.

The SMAI Platform Engineering team is looking for a hands-on individual contributor to help build, run and maintain the platforms behind its analytics and AI workloads.

Day to day, the work centres on engineering, solving problems with others, and working closely with solution architects, project teams and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Build, run and maintain the platforms behind analytics and AI workloads, keeping them reliable and able to grow.
• Work with solution architects to design, build and tune solutions across IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, using Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Handle customer requests, keep service standards high, and make controlled changes to the platform.
• Watch performance, observability, cost and resource use, and find ways to improve them.
• Write up findings, operating procedures, guidelines and reusable patterns, and give feedback to vendors and internal teams.
• Track platform roadmaps, new technologies and service offerings, and recommend which ones to adopt.
• Work with global platform teams, customers, partners and vendors so operations run smoothly, architectures scale, and automation, including AI-driven business solutions, delivers results.
• Set up and maintain security controls such as RBAC and recognised industry frameworks to protect intellectual property and sensitive data.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering or a related technical field, plus 2, 4 years in platform administration and/or cloud engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and Kubernetes, covering administration, deployment, scaling, monitoring and fixing problems in production.
• Experience administering public cloud platforms and implementing infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Familiarity with machine learning, data science, generative AI and agentic AI concepts, including support for AI/ML platform workloads.
• Strong collaboration, communication, documentation and problem-solving skills, a habit of continuous learning, and the ability to deliver technical projects independently.
• Preferred: a strong foundation in, or experience administering, Unix.
