Solution Architect

Description

The role sits in the Solution Architecture team within Business Applications Technology, where you help decide how business applications, platforms and technologies fit together, from first idea through to implementation.

Responsibilities

• Turn business needs into end-to-end solution designs, choosing components, technologies, integration patterns and non-functional requirements.
• Judge how proposed solutions fit the current IT landscape and spot where new capabilities are needed.
• Apply architecture principles so solutions stay aligned, consistent and easy to maintain.
• Identify risks, dependencies and trade-offs early so teams can decide with good information, and record architectural decisions and the reasoning behind them.
• Advise on architecture for incoming IT demands and work with business experts, platform teams and external partners.
• Support project and implementation teams through the delivery lifecycle, explain design options to stakeholders, and take part in vendor and RFI/RFP assessments.
• Help improve shared technical services and platforms so business applications run reliably and cost-effectively, including building and extending integration and runtime capabilities.
• Give structured architectural guidance to the teams that use these shared services.
• Contribute to target architectures and cross-functional IT initiatives, working within and improving the internal Solution Architecture Methodology and ways of working.
• Promote reusable reference architectures, patterns and guidelines so architectural knowledge spreads across teams.

Requirements

• A university degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Fluent English. German is a plus.
• Around 5 years of professional experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture or a senior technical role such as lead engineer.
• A proven record of designing and delivering end-to-end solutions across enterprise technology environments.
• A solid grasp of cloud and enterprise application landscapes, including integration approaches such as APIs, messaging and data flows.
• Experience with SAP or other major enterprise platforms is an advantage.
• Ability to assess security, scalability, resilience, performance, cost and operational readiness.
• Strong systems thinking and sound judgement when balancing business needs, delivery speed, complexity and risk.
• Clear communication and a collaborative, pragmatic style with business and technology stakeholders, including the ability to challenge assumptions constructively and explain trade-offs.
• Experience with architecture documentation, design reviews or vendor assessments is an advantage.

Conditions

The minimum gross monthly salary under the collective agreement is EUR 2,535, disclosed for legal reasons. The actual compensation is market-based and significantly higher.
