Description

The company is hiring software testers for modernization work, where legacy systems are moved onto modern frameworks and tested through a mix of hand-run and scripted checks.

You will build and maintain automated test frameworks for the agency's enterprise grants systems.

You will help keep the grants platform and related applications reliable, accessible, secure and fast.

You will work alongside developers, business analysts, product owners and DevSecOps engineers to put test automation into the critical systems the agency relies on.

The role involves new technology.

Responsibilities

  • Write and upkeep automated test scripts for functional, regression, performance, API and integration testing, using Selenium, Protractor, Jasmine, Cucumber/Gherkin or similar tools.
  • Design and improve scalable test frameworks, covering Selenium Grid, parallel runs, cross-browser coverage, containerized suites and cloud-compatible runners.
  • Use AI-assisted methods to speed up script creation, test data generation, defect triage and coverage checks.
  • Create test strategies, plans, scripts and automated pipelines inside the DevSecOps setup (CI/CD, GitLab/GitHub, Docker).
  • Support Section 508 and WCAG accessibility assessments within automated workflows.
  • Refine acceptance criteria with teams and enable Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) across several agile teams.
  • Set test metrics, KPIs, dashboards and reports that leadership can follow.
  • Manage automated test data, synthetic datasets and validation rules across distributed systems.
  • Debug in depth, analyze logs, find root causes and reproduce defects that span multiple systems.
  • Work with business analysts, developers and product owners to check business logic, user flows and edge cases.
  • Point out testability gaps and push for quality-focused engineering in design, architecture and user experience.
  • Mentor junior testers and help write best-practice documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree. Experience can be considered in place of education.
  • Seven or more years of testing experience, including five or more years of automated testing and three or more years of manual testing, or related experience.
  • Proven programming or scripting skills in languages such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript or Python, applied to automated testing.
  • Hands-on experience with at least two of the following: Selenium Grid / WebDriver; Protractor or Jasmine; Cucumber/Gherkin; JUnit or TestNG; GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket.
  • Experience with relational databases, UI/UX testing and Section 508 compliance testing.
  • Experience with Agile or Scrum and tools such as Jira, Serena Business Manager and HP QC.
  • Willingness to work onsite in Washington, DC.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a DHS/FEMA EOD background investigation.
  • Desired: strong communication, including clear documentation, defect reports and explaining technical topics.

Conditions

Full-time, regular position.

No travel is required.

No security clearance is needed to start.

Work is onsite in Washington, DC.

The proposed salary range is $86,600 to $181,800.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off that lets you take the time you need.
  • Access to learning resources and continuing education.
  • Comprehensive benefits covering healthcare, wellness, financial support, retirement, family support and time off.
