Description

The company combines methodical, quantitative analysis with its Narrative Analytics platform to study open-source media, recommend strategy, and build executive-level communication plans for clients.

The team includes communication specialists, data scientists, and subject matter experts who have worked with U.S. Government agencies, non-profits, and Fortune 500 companies.

This is a small, collaborative engineering team. The platform analyzes millions of online conversations to find the beliefs and narratives that shape how people think and act.

As an intern you will write production code across backend, front-end, data pipelines, and AI features, working next to experienced engineers, data scientists, and analysts. The code you write will be used by the internal teams and by clients.

Responsibilities

  • Build Django REST Framework API endpoints in Python and the React/TypeScript components that call them.
  • Write Metaflow pipeline steps that pull in documents, enrich them with LLMs, and index them in OpenSearch.
  • Help build and evaluate LLM features, including prompt templates, structured outputs, and scorecards that show whether a prompt is performing.
  • Use AWS services such as S3, Bedrock, and EKS for development, troubleshooting, and deployment.
  • Write tests, upgrade dependencies, fix breakages, and help find production bugs.
  • Work with data scientists and analysts to understand how the platform is used and how your engineering work supports their analysis.

Requirements

  • Be comfortable writing Python.
  • Have used Git on real projects, beyond class assignments.
  • Have some exposure to web development in any framework, to SQL, or to JavaScript.
  • Be curious about NLP, machine learning, or large language models.
  • Be currently enrolled in a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Meet U.S. Government contract eligibility rules, including any citizenship or security clearance requirements tied to your assigned work.
  • Ideal candidates have a class or side project using Django, React, or TypeScript.
  • Ideal candidates have worked with Pandas or other Python data tools.
  • Ideal candidates have called an LLM API and built something with it.
  • Ideal candidates use AI coding tools and can tell when their output is wrong.
  • Ideal candidates have experience with Docker or any cloud provider.

Conditions

This is an internship, paid at $20.00 per hour or the applicable local minimum wage, whichever is higher.
