Senior Engineer

Description

Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens, because every program the team supports requires U.S. citizenship for employment. All work must take place in the continental U.S.

The company is a non-traditional defense technology firm based in McLean, VA. It builds AI/ML and data systems for U.S. military and government agencies and focuses on autonomous data fusion, agentic AI, distributed data systems, large-scale platforms and complex application development.

The clients are federal and public agencies. The company designs its digital products around customer needs and uses modern design practices, current technology and cloud-native infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Join the team building a data product on open source tools including Kafka, Trino, DuckDB and Superset.
• Build backend and frontend features end to end, so users can work with data more easily and turn their findings into a data story inside the product.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing and building RESTful APIs in at least one of these languages: Go (preferred), Java, Python, Rust (nice to have) or Scala.
• 2+ years working with frontend frameworks such as React, using TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Deep knowledge of software design and architecture.
• Hands-on experience with large relational and non-relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Elasticsearch, including meeting low-latency requirements.
• Experience building and releasing software in cloud-native environments.
• Experience with package and dependency managers such as Maven, Gradle and NPM.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including containerizing applications and running distributed clusters.
• Experience working with AI coding assistants.
• A track record of taking on large responsibilities and owning complex work or full project lifecycles.
• A STEM background or relevant industry experience.
• Ability to earn the Security+ certification within 90 days of starting.
• Highly preferred: experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ, Delta Lake, or AWS or Azure.
• An active TS/SCI clearance is required.

Conditions

Compensation depends on your overall experience, demonstrated skills and proven abilities.

The role is onsite in Chantilly, VA.

Travel of up to 25% may be required.
