Description

The company is part of a larger parent group's pumps and process solutions segment. It designs and manufactures mission-critical equipment components for oil and gas, power generation, marine, industrial, chemical and general processing customers, aiming to help them run more efficiently and deliver cleaner, more affordable energy.

This role sits in the Special Projects team of the Rosenberg, TX business. That business builds instrumentation and control solutions for oil and gas production and natural gas compression, helping gas supply stay reliable and helping customers meet strict emission rules.

As a senior technical contributor, you will design, develop and deliver advanced control systems, leading complex custom PLC and HMI applications alongside engineering peers, technical support and customers.

As the subject matter expert, you take deliverables from concept to release on your own, give technical leadership on non-standard applications, and help improve control architectures, tools and standards. The role calls for strong hands-on controls skill, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to turn customer needs into robust, scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain product control firmware and display applications that meet customer requirements and project deliverables.
  • Lead technical ownership of complex and non-standard control solutions, including first-of-kind applications.
  • Write embedded and industrial control software in C, C++, JavaScript, IEEE 61131 languages and proprietary development tools.
  • Test and validate control solutions on physical hardware and in simulation to confirm they match the design intent, working independently.
  • Produce and maintain project documents such as sequences of operation, communication tables and display maps for internal and external use.
  • Prepare accurate project estimates and deliver your assignments on schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Work with engineering peers to build complete system solutions that integrate the company's technologies into cohesive control architectures.
  • Share technical concepts and solution approaches with project teams to guide direction and drive improvement.
  • Manage code, track issues and support software releases using GitLab and Subversion.
  • Create and manage production releases in Oracle Agile PLM.
  • Help technical support teams resolve customer technical issues when needed.
  • Join customer interactions when needed to clarify requirements and answer technical questions.
  • Guide and informally mentor less experienced engineers as appropriate.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology, or related technical vocational training.
  • Preferred: extended experience of 5 years or more alongside that education.
  • At least 2 years of industrial experience programming and maintaining PLC-controlled machinery or equipment.
  • A proven ability to design, test and implement industrial control systems on your own.
  • A solid understanding of industrial electrical control panel wiring and construction drawings, including common drafting symbols.
  • The ability to read functional layouts, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, end-user specifications and theories of operation.
  • Experience developing PLC and HMI applications for industrial control panels, and working knowledge of NEC, CEC, ISA, UL, CSA, API and ANSI standards, especially for hazardous locations and industrial controls.
  • Preferred: experience with reciprocating and rotary screw gas compressors driven by gas, diesel or electric motors.
  • Preferred: experience with VFDs and industrial motor control systems.
  • Preferred: familiarity with customer or special-project control system development environments.
  • Preferred: the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly in documentation and in customer-facing discussions.
