CNC Programmer

Description

The company is part of a parent company with $7.7 billion in revenue, operating in the Pumps and Process solutions segment and serving oil and gas, power generation, marine, industrial, chemical and general processing customers worldwide.

This role is with the bearings business at the Antigo, Wisconsin plant, which designs and builds hydrodynamic fluid film bearings, active magnetic bearing systems and seals for turbomachinery and rotating equipment in oil and gas, power generation, marine, military and industrial markets.

The team focuses on technology and operational excellence, and its main client is a government customer.

Responsibilities

• Write CNC programs using CAD/CAM and 3D verification software.
• Read drawings, sketches and design data to work out part dimensions and cut layouts, then choose tools and set spindle speeds and feed rates.
• Review routings during programming and adjust processes so CNC machines run at full capability.
• Correct programming errors and omissions.
• Set work procedures and keep the workflow moving.
• Write standard work documents covering tooling and programs for CNC machines.
• Lead continuous improvement of tooling and programs, including shorter setup times.
• Simplify tooling and setups for operators to raise output for the client.
• Test finished designs to confirm they work and reduce time and cost, protecting product margin.
• Check that programs follow blueprints and run safely to completion.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of CNC experience, including programming lathes, mills and/or multi-axis machines.
• Manufacturing experience is required.
• Working knowledge of Fanuc, Okuma and/or Mazak programming controls.
• Skill with G codes, FeatureCAM, SolidWorks and/or comparable CAD/CAM software.
• Able to use micrometers, bore gages and dial calipers.
• Understanding of tooling as it relates to speeds, feeds and cutting capability.
• Able to diagnose tooling failures and recommend better tooling.
• Able to read blueprints or drawings and set the best machining parameters and toolpaths.
• Able to write macro programs that make machining easier.
• U.S. citizen required, due to ITAR/UNNPI regulations and the government client.
• Preferred: certification from an accredited technical school.
• Preferred: experience in engineered-to-order precision component manufacturing, ideally for bearings or related products.

Conditions

First shift, Monday to Friday, 6am to 3pm, with possible flexibility in start and end times.

Based at the Antigo, Wisconsin manufacturing facility.

Pay rates depend on the position's responsibilities, the candidate's experience and education or training, the location, and the key skills needed.
