Description

The company is changing how it builds vehicles and how it will shape transportation in electric vehicles. The Software Services team leads much of this work and is hiring people who are driven and inventive to help the company reach its goals.

The role is hybrid. You would be expected to work on site in Milford, MI, at least 3 to 4 days per week.

The team is hiring for Battery and Propulsion HIL Engineers. HIL, or hardware-in-the-loop, environments let engineers develop, verify and validate embedded controllers and calibrations for batteries, electrification, engines and powertrains. Running simulations earlier in development lets the company integrate and validate sooner, ship new products and features faster, and stay competitive.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain simulation models of plants, sensors, actuators, serial data communication and controllers so teams can test in realistic environments.
  • Use dSpace Simulink and Simscape to design and maintain models.
  • Design HIL benches, including the harness, layout, ECUs and power supply, and integrate key ECMs.
  • Work with software development, calibration and validation stakeholders to find solutions to customer needs.
  • Partner with test environment users to find root causes, explain unexpected results and fix problems during test runs.
  • Plan and coordinate test environment strategy and rollouts of models and hardware for the features users request.
  • Share common models and simulation assets across test domains and architectures by working with model and equipment sources.
  • Support HIL benches and automated tools.
  • Deliver finished work on schedule and meet team goals, and streamline processes where you can.
  • Apply Agile practices, with Scrum ART planning and stories written for each task, along with Lean Manufacturing and DFSS methods to raise quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in mechatronics, electrical engineering, software or computer engineering.
  • 4+ years designing models using controls theory and real-time simulation.
  • 4+ years of HIL design, troubleshooting and integration experience.
  • 2+ years of automotive engineering experience.
  • 1+ years applying DFSS tools and methods to solve problems.
  • Preferred: master's degree in engineering in mechatronics, electrical engineering, software or computer engineering.
  • Preferred: experience developing microprocessor-based, real-time control algorithms and software in a high-level language such as Python or C/C++.
  • Preferred: experience with common HIL bench tools such as ETAS INCA, Lauterbach, CAN tools (CANalyzer or Vehicle Spy), software code generation and Python.
  • Preferred: experience as a controls, software or calibration engineer.
  • Knowledge of ISO SPI and CAN tools is useful for this work.
