Description

This is a 2027 summer internship on the AI/ML engineering team for autonomous vehicles, based in Sunnyvale, California.

The AV Developer Productivity group builds and runs the tools that the company's autonomous vehicle engineers use every day, from checking out and editing code to building, testing, merging and deploying it, plus AI and agentic tools for developers.

The aim is to give AV engineers reliable, high-quality tools so they can focus on the problems that matter most in their work.

The role suits someone with solid engineering fundamentals who enjoys building developer tools, cares about software quality and wants to improve productivity. You will work alongside other engineers and learn from more experienced colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Ship improvements to the AV development toolchains and services that directly raise engineering productivity and the company's core metrics.
  • Find engineering pain points with guidance from senior engineers, then build solutions that are reliable, scalable and easy to maintain.
  • Work with Golang, Python, gRPC, SSH, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, Buildkite, GCP and OpenTelemetry.
  • Keep your team informed about where your work stands.
  • Follow the software engineering best practices your team uses.
  • Help shape the team's engineering culture.
  • Take ownership of your work.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled full-time in a degree program and working toward a Bachelor's or Master's in computer science or a related field.
  • Expect to graduate between December 2027 and August 2028.
  • Have an academic understanding of highly scalable distributed systems.
  • Have written Go or another language commonly used for production services.
  • Understand Unix/Linux, SSH and networking fundamentals.
  • Be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Preferred: Show attention to detail and a drive to improve the processes and systems around you.
  • Preferred: Have experience with GCP.
  • Preferred: Have experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Preferred: Have hands-on experience with agentic developer tools.
  • Preferred: Have a passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.
  • Preferred: Intend to return to your degree program after the internship.

Conditions

The monthly salary range is $9,600 to $11,800 per month.

Eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program receive a one-time lump sum stipend, which is taxable.

The role is hybrid, with office attendance up to three times per week or as the team decides.

For someone in the Seattle area, the role may be considered remote.

The company is committed to equal employment opportunity, and candidates may need to complete a role-related assessment and or a pre-employment screening before starting.

Benefits

  • Paid US company holidays.
  • Vehicle discount through the Family First program.
  • Potential for growth within the company based on results.
  • Intern events for networking with company leaders and peers.
