Description

The European Digital Marketing Agency is hiring a practical software engineer to build dependable services, integrations and user-facing features for its AI-enabled internal tools and workflows.

The ideal person is a pragmatic engineer with solid software engineering principles who can take clearly defined features from start to finish while growing their skills in AI, cloud and full-stack work.

You will communicate openly and clearly, and explain technical topics to different audiences.

You will work with technical and non-technical colleagues across the European agency to turn ideas and business needs into secure, scalable, production-ready capabilities.

The company values curiosity, diverse perspectives and listening as part of its leadership approach.

The company has cut energy use in its UK offices by 19.2% year on year.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test and maintain backend services and APIs, mainly in Java.
  • Build accessible user-facing features in TypeScript and React.
  • Write Python for analytics, internal tools and automation.
  • Connect backend services to foundation-model APIs and third-party agentic platforms.
  • Keep contracts between backend and frontend components clear, reliable and type-safe.
  • Add suitable testing, validation, error handling, observability and fallback behaviour.
  • Review code, write technical documentation and help improve engineering standards.
  • Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to refine requirements and ship production-ready solutions.
  • Assess new technologies pragmatically and adopt them where they clearly add value.

Requirements

  • A degree in a relevant STEM subject, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Solid programming basics in Java or another statically typed language.
  • Experience with JavaScript and modern web development basics.
  • A good grasp of relational databases, data modelling and SQL.
  • Experience with Git, Docker, automated testing and common development workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or similar tools.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to own defined work, contribute to technical design and deliver to an agreed standard.
  • Desirable: Experience with Spring Boot, TypeScript and React.
  • Desirable: Some knowledge of cloud services such as AWS ECS, Lambda, S3 and RDS, or comparable services.
  • Desirable: Exposure to Snowflake, Redis or similar technologies.
  • Desirable: Experience with foundation-model APIs, structured outputs, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation or agentic frameworks.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of API design, CI/CD, application observability and production support.
  • Desirable: Awareness of security, privacy, reliability and cost issues in AI-enabled applications.
  • Desirable: Background in digital, marketing, agency or other fast-paced delivery settings.
