Description

You will join the Consumer Intelligence & Engagement team, which builds the intelligence and engagement capabilities that make consumer experiences on digital channels more relevant and personal.

The team works on personalisation, recommendations, consumer intelligence, experimentation and AI-driven decisions, supporting how consumers find products, engage with content and progress through membership and loyalty.

As a Software Engineer II, you will build the AI and backend services behind personalisation and recommendations. You will work with the Lead Engineer and Engineering Manager to deliver low-latency services for real-time consumer experiences.

The company is a global sports brand making footwear, apparel and accessories. It operates in 120+ countries and has around 22,000 employees.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical design, build and validation of your work.
  • Design and build scalable APIs, event-driven services and integration layers for real-time and batch recommendations.
  • Build the layers that serve models and connect them to inference.
  • Deliver reliable, scalable, low-latency services with a focus on resilience, observability and performance.
  • Apply caching, event-driven processing and distributed systems patterns to handle high-volume consumer traffic.
  • Make solutions secure, observable, reliable and resilient through disciplined engineering.
  • Improve performance, scalability, reliability and operational efficiency by automating work and fixing problems early.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools and practices to raise productivity, code quality and delivery speed.

Requirements

  • 4+ years designing and building large-scale distributed backend systems on cloud-native platforms.
  • Hands-on experience building and running recommendation and personalisation systems.
  • Strong backend skills in API design, microservices, event-driven architecture and scalable integration, using Java, Spring Boot and related frameworks.
  • Experience integrating and running LLM APIs and AI services in production applications.
  • Experience with Redis or equivalent caching systems.
  • Experience with observability, reliability engineering and performance tuning.
  • Experience using coding agents, LLMs or AI-assisted tools to improve delivery and developer productivity.
  • Strong advantage: experience with feature stores, vector databases, embedding-based retrieval and modern ML architectures.
  • Strongly preferred: experience in eCommerce, retail or consumer digital products.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunity employer, and people, not automated tools, make all hiring decisions, with AI used only for isolated tasks such as scheduling interviews.
