Description

The company is a subsidiary of a larger parent group and sells hardware and network services to more than 100 million people.

It also runs an entertainment business that owns some of the best-known intellectual properties in the world.

The DevEx team builds simulation tools that let platform engineers develop, test and debug software in a stable, repeatable environment.

As a Software Engineer II, you will own well-defined features from design through rollout and improve the accuracy, reliability and usability of the simulation environment, including simulator functions, development and test workflow integration, automation, diagnostics and configuration tools.

You will work with engineering and quality teams across the company and turn recurring development and testing problems into maintainable product improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Write production-quality C++ for simulation and developer tooling, covering design, implementation, testing and documentation.
  • Build and maintain software abstractions, simulated services and client/server integrations that mirror key system behavior in development environments.
  • Make core developer tasks easier, including environment setup, simulator startup, configuration, input handling, debugging, log collection and recovery from failures.
  • Improve build, dependency, packaging and release processes for the simulation platform using current build tools, package managers, containers and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Write unit, integration and end-to-end tests that catch regressions early and move high-value checks into continuous integration.
  • Investigate failures that span processes, libraries, containers and platforms, then write clear root-cause analyses and lasting fixes.
  • Help maintain shared libraries and developer interfaces, covering versioning, compatibility, migration guidance and coordination with consuming teams.
  • Write architecture notes, setup guides, troubleshooting steps and release documentation so developers can work without direct help from the team.
  • Work with engineers, QE, product owners and neighboring platform teams to agree integration contracts, order cross-team changes and deliver complete features.
  • Take part in design and code reviews, give concrete feedback and raise the team's engineering practices through the work you ship.

Requirements

  • A degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 4+ years of professional experience building systems software, platform software, developer tools, infrastructure or similar technical products.
  • Solid modern C++ skills and hands-on experience working on Linux.
  • Experience diagnosing multi-process, client/server or platform-integrated software using logs, traces, debuggers and reproducible test cases.
  • Experience writing automated tests and running them in CI/CD workflows.
  • Working knowledge of build systems, dependency management, source control and release practices across a multi-repository codebase.
  • Ability to take a defined problem through technical design, implementation, validation, documentation and rollout.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, particularly when aligning interfaces or diagnosing issues across team boundaries.
  • A plus: experience with simulation, emulation, hardware abstraction, service virtualization or comparable development environments.
  • A plus: experience with containerized development using Docker, dev containers, WSL or comparable tooling.
  • A plus: familiarity with CMake, package management tools, CI systems, collaborative source-control workflows or cross-platform build toolchains.
  • A plus: experience designing or integrating IPC, client/server APIs, shared libraries or SDKs.
  • A plus: experience with complex platform software or software for resource-constrained environments.
  • A plus: experience supporting developer tools as a product, including gathering feedback, measuring friction, improving diagnostics and simplifying onboarding.
  • A plus: working knowledge of additional tooling or platform languages such as Python, Rust, JavaScript or TypeScript.
