Description

The compute engineering group builds the scheduling, capacity, and performance systems that run the company's platform across private and public cloud.

The company is hiring at several engineering levels. Your level will be set by your experience, technical depth, demonstrated impact, and interview results.

Senior Staff: you lead the design and delivery of a major part of the compute platform, raise quality within your team, and mentor engineers.

Principal: you set technical direction across several teams or a major compute area, shape architecture, mentor senior engineers and architects, and influence decisions across regions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve the compute scheduler and resource management systems, covering placement, prioritization, preemption, and fairness between workloads.
  • Build capacity models and forecasts for private and public cloud, and use them to drive reservation and placement decisions.
  • Create performance and scale testing, including benchmarks, load tests, regression detection, and SLOs for scheduling latency and throughput.
  • Apply AI and ML to forecasting, anomaly detection, and placement optimization where they beat simpler methods.
  • Write and maintain declarative, software-defined infrastructure at scale, including build systems, web services, and automation that are specified, documented, and testable.
  • Evaluate and adopt open-source and commercial tools and methods that improve compute efficiency and reliability.
  • Work with networking, orchestration, SRE, and FinOps teams on cross-team designs and cost trade-offs.
  • Lead complex technical decisions and design reviews. Test assumptions with data, raise architectural risks early, and balance delivery speed with long-term durability.
  • Own production reliability and incident response for compute systems, and drive improvements after incidents.
  • Mentor architects and senior engineers and help grow the next layer of technical leaders.

Requirements

  • Experience using AI in work processes, decision-making, or problem solving, such as AI-powered tools, workflow automation, analyzing AI-driven insights, or assessing AI's impact on your function or industry.
  • 12+ years of related experience in software engineering, cloud, or infrastructure automation with a Bachelor's degree; or 8+ years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5+ years; or equivalent experience.
  • Deep experience building multi-tenant, cloud-native SaaS at enterprise scale, including distributed systems, large-scale data systems, APIs, and microservices.
  • Experience designing or running large-scale schedulers or resource managers such as Kubernetes, Slurm, or internal equivalents.
  • Strong programming skills in Go, Python, or Java, plus experience with related languages.
  • Experience with capacity planning, performance engineering, or load testing at scale.
  • Hands-on experience running ML in production, such as models, feature pipelines, or ML platforms. Using AI tools alone does not meet this requirement.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management, such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Comfortable with virtualization and cloud infrastructure across private and public clouds, such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Working understanding of IP networking, block and file storage, and load balancers.
  • Works independently across connected systems and finds root causes without waiting to be told where to look.
  • Influences people across several teams and regions (US, EU, India) without direct authority over them.
  • Communicates clearly with senior leaders, customers, and engineers, and can explain a compelling technical vision.
  • Keeps a learning mindset and wants to build new skills and deliver real improvements for internal and external customers.
  • Shows integrity and honesty, and upholds the company's values.
  • Preferred: experience with ML-driven scheduling, forecasting, or capacity optimization.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of internet protocols such as DNS, NTP, and HTTP.
  • Preferred: experience with release management and large-scale server infrastructure.
