Description

The company is hiring a software engineer for its Insurance technology team to build, improve and support web applications used by customers and internal teams.

You will work on new features and on changes to existing and greenfield codebases, including applications that connect to third-party services and databases.

The team mainly works in C# on.NET and modern web technologies, but engineers from other backgrounds are welcome if they have solid fundamentals, want to learn, and can get up to speed fast.

The role is in Denver, CO or Seattle, WA and requires in-office attendance up to three days a week.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The company will not sponsor employment visas for this role, now or later.

Responsibilities

  • Build and extend scalable, maintainable web applications for the Insurance business, including integrations with third-party web services, databases, and user interfaces.
  • Maintain existing applications by troubleshooting, fixing bugs, applying required upgrades, improving performance, and changing current functionality.
  • Break problems, both business and technical, into parts and help build solutions that are reliable, practical, and easy to maintain.
  • Turn business requirements and acceptance criteria into sound technical designs, and show finished features against agreed outcomes.
  • Help raise engineering standards through code reviews, testing, documentation, design discussions, and improvements to the development process.
  • Work with teammates and business partners on shared projects, explaining technical ideas, open questions, and tradeoffs clearly.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional experience building and supporting web applications.
  • Experience with a modern object-oriented language and web framework. The team mainly uses C# and ASP.NET, but comparable technologies are accepted if you have strong fundamentals and can ramp up quickly.
  • Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and a modern front-end framework such as React, Angular, or Vue, or a proven ability to pick up new frameworks quickly.
  • Experience building business applications on relational databases such as SQL Server, with knowledge of database design and data access patterns. NoSQL exposure is helpful.
  • Experience building and integrating service-oriented and event-driven systems, including APIs and third-party integrations.
  • Working knowledge of software engineering best practices: maintainable design, SOLID principles, design patterns, code review, and unit testing.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment and delivering against defined requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Exposure to AI tools and an understanding of how AI can support technical processes, workflows, and business goals.
  • Ability to grasp business logic and project requirements and communicate well with both technical and non-technical people.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new languages, frameworks, technologies, and business domains instead of staying with one stack.
  • Comfort working in an established codebase, making careful changes while balancing quality, maintainability, and risk.
  • Care about code quality and treat code review and feedback as a way to learn and improve the product and the team.
  • Enjoy working with other developers, sharing knowledge, asking questions, and learning from peers.
  • Willing to challenge assumptions constructively and state your view when you see a chance to improve the work.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP is helpful. Azure experience, including provisioning, monitoring, performance management, or Application Insights, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with current web practices using HTML5, CSS, and TypeScript is helpful.

Conditions

Work is based in Denver, CO or Seattle, WA, with in-office attendance up to three days a week.
