Description

The company builds identity management and data protection software that secures digital interactions for banks, governments and more than 30,000 organizations.

The Czech team has over 400 people from 45 nationalities, split across 15 teams that work on government, banking, mobile and IoT projects.

Much of the work is software that gets configured and embedded in payment cards, SIM cards, travel passes, authentication tokens, eBanking devices, machine identification modules and secure ID documents such as ePassports, eID, eHealth cards and eDriving licenses.

English is the official corporate language. The wider group has about 80,000 employees in 68 countries.

You would join a product team building security-critical backend systems that millions of users depend on. The team builds, ships and runs its own services, and works in close partnership with Product.

The team stays on the newest Java LTS and Spring Framework. It favors confidence over coverage, with integration tests first and minimal mocking. Pipelines are automated, with several test layers and fast feedback, and the team deploys to production itself.

A company-backed AI initiative provides tooling, guidelines and people who drive adoption. Engineers are expected to speak up, challenge solutions and improve the platform beyond their own team.

Hiring has three steps: an intro call about mutual fit and expectations, a technical conversation on real backend work with a practical exercise and deep-dive discussion, and a final conversation with the team about culture.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver backend services where security, correctness and maintainability are core requirements.
  • Turn unclear, high-impact problems into a clear plan and ship in small iterations.
  • Work with Product to build solutions that are technically sound and suited to users.
  • Improve platform-wide reliability, observability, performance, developer experience and deployment safety.
  • Raise code quality through careful reviews, practical architecture decisions and knowledge sharing.
  • Work with Java (latest LTS), Spring Framework (latest), Kubernetes, Helm, Skaffold, GitOps and AWS, and automate build, deploy and operation with CI/CD and extensive automated testing.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Deep expertise in Java and strong hands-on experience with Spring.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Able to work autonomously: take a big problem, reduce its risk, drive it to completion and bring in others when needed.
  • Strong engineering judgment: challenge weak solutions, reject minimal effort and care about long-term quality.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, focused on outcomes rather than activity, and willing to improve shared foundations such as platform, tooling and patterns, not only your own service.
  • Nice to have: OIDC, OAuth2, MFA, WebAuthn, SAML and SCIM authentication and authorization flows.
  • Nice to have: CIAM and IAM concepts such as consent, identity lifecycle, federation, credential management, RBAC and token-based security.
  • Nice to have: distributed or event-driven systems where scale, availability and consistency matter.
  • Nice to have: observability and performance tuning, including metrics, tracing, JVM optimization and load testing.
  • Nice to have: cryptography fundamentals such as key management, secure hashing, TLS and JWT signing.
  • Nice to have: multi-tenant architectures with data isolation and secure configuration management.
  • Nice to have: IaC and DevOps with Terraform, CloudFormation and GitOps workflows.
  • Nice to have: balanced testing with contract tests, integration-first tests, minimal mocking and maintainable test suites.
