Description

The On-Board Processing department in Ottobrunn, near Munich, is hiring a software developer for embedded real-time software.

The role sits in a digital payload competence centre within the space systems engineering group. The centre spans France, Germany and the United Kingdom and handles payload processing.

The work covers delivering qualified on-board and ground processing chains for telecom and navigation digital payloads and RF sensing. It also covers software delivery, operations and functional validation for optical and radar instruments.

Ottobrunn is close to Munich in Bavaria, and the Alps and Lake Starnberg are within an hour for outdoor activities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse the requirements baseline from the SW architect and define the functional behaviour of the software.
  • Turn system software requirements (SSS) into detailed software requirements (SRS).
  • Define the embedded software architecture, both static and dynamic.
  • Analyse embedded real-time limits such as memory size, CPU load and deadlines.
  • Design the software, covering task scheduling, I/O, algorithms and software mode management.
  • Design the HW/SW interface, covering I/O, interrupts and timing.
  • Implement every function in the requirements baseline.
  • Integrate and debug hardware and software using JTAG and gdb, then run functional qualification before payload AIT.
  • Support verification with coding rules, metrics and code coverage.
  • Run unit and functional validation tests.
  • Manage configuration control for software and validation items.
  • Write software documentation that follows ECSS processes.
  • Work across disciplines with the simulator (FVI) and database (DB) teams.
  • Help control software schedule and cost.
  • Carry out all work under the internal and external software process standards ECSS-E-ST-40C and ECSS-Q-ST-80C.
  • Drive continuous improvements in efficiency, productivity, processes and industrialisation for the digital payload processing group.

Requirements

  • Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics or a similar field.
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in a similar field.
  • Familiarity with space standards ECSS-E-ST-40C, ECSS-Q-ST-80C and ECSS-E-ST-70-41C.
  • Experience working to a defined software process and standards such as OPAL, MISRA, static code analysis and code coverage.
  • Experience with embedded software on limited resources.
  • Experience with real-time systems and operating systems such as RTEMS.
  • Experience developing bare-metal targets without memory protection.
  • Skilled in C, C++ and assembler for SPARC, ARM or similar architectures.
  • Able to read hardware datasheets.
  • Familiar with standard interfaces such as MIL-Bus, SpaceWire and CAN.
  • Proficient with the GNU compile environment.
  • Comfortable with common development tools such as Eclipse, make, Confluence, Git, Jira, Gerrit, Doxygen and Polyspace.
  • Proficient with standard software packages on Linux, Windows and Office.
  • Good communicator who can work autonomously and as part of an intercultural team.
  • Fluent in English and German.
  • Aware of compliance risks and committed to acting with integrity.
  • Not a 100% match? Still apply. The company tailors development support to each person.

Conditions

Permanent contract at professional experience level, in the software engineering job family.

30 days of annual leave under the collective agreement, based on a 35-hour week.

Flexible working hours, mobile working, part-time options, job sharing and sabbaticals are available.

The company welcomes applicants regardless of background, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religion.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay plus individual extras such as company pension schemes, bike leasing and corporate discounts with partners, under current guidelines.
  • Strong professional development and international, group-wide career paths.
  • On-site company doctor and health programmes, including sports courses and preventive care.
  • Canteen and cafeteria, plus childcare at selected sites.
  • A diverse workforce of more than 140 nationalities, where exchange and mutual support are valued.
