Software and Controls Engineer

Description

The role sits in the Prepared Foods Division and is based at the Sandusky, Ohio factory, where the company builds food and beverage processing equipment.

You will work on electrical and control systems for ovens and hot baking equipment, with a team that works across global groups on projects.

Responsibilities

• Create and lead control system designs for new industrial equipment and for upgrades to existing designs.
• Direct drafters as they produce drawings.
• Choose components and their sizes, fit them into the control framework, and run the calculations that confirm the equipment will operate safely.
• Handle requirements gathering, system-level design, PLC and HMI programming, validation, and implementation.
• Perform design calculations and validations, and produce drawings in AutoCAD Electrical.
• Give technical direction to the electrical and controls engineers by reviewing their designs and documentation, solving problems, and troubleshooting equipment.
• Support customers and internal teams with electrical and control design, implementation, and support.
• Work with customers, Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Customer Care, and Project Management, needing little supervision to hit project goals.
• Troubleshoot electrical and control systems and equipment.
• Estimate and track labor and material costs for control system design.
• Help improve processes within the electrical and controls group and across the organization.
• Make sure designs follow engineering procedures, industry standards, and government regulations for industrial equipment.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or an associate's degree in a related field, plus at least 2 years of electrical and controls experience.
• Strong experience designing electrical and control systems for industrial equipment in Rockwell software.
• Strong experience programming PLCs with Rockwell development software.
• Working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical.
• Knowledge of North American electrical codes and industry standards used in equipment design, including UL, CSA, NFPA, NEC, and IEC.
• Ability to design electrical circuits and panels and carry out calculations, including those for safety circuit ratings.
• Knowledge of industrial components such as VFDs, proximity switches, safety devices, SCADA, and HMIs.
• NFPA-level knowledge is a plus.
• Ability to travel to customer and vendor sites, with trips planned in advance, up to 20% of the time.

Conditions

The schedule is hybrid: 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.

Travel is up to 20% and planned in advance.
