We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that full-time employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. This in-office expectation does not apply to contractor positions

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who specializes in frontend engineering and has deep design system experience. You will set how our teams build, share, and ship user interfaces across a growing set of products. Many teams build UI-heavy libraries and tools, and you will make it fast and consistent for them to do so. You will also help shape how our interfaces adapt to a new generation of AI-driven, dynamically generated experiences.

You'll work independently and own problems from first design through production. You'll also act as a technical leader and a multiplier for the engineers around you. We're building in an AI-native world. You should be comfortable working with agents while still caring about code quality. We see agents as a chance to help the whole company build better, safer code.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture, evolution, and adoption of our design system and shared component libraries, working independently from design through delivery.
  • Create standardized tooling, templates, and build and distribution workflows that let teams and agents create, package, and ship UI libraries consistently, with less duplicated effort.
  • Partner with product engineering teams across the company to understand their frontend needs, gather feedback, and turn it into reusable, well-documented solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with product designers and system designers to create flexible, extensible UI tooling and solutions.
  • Design frontend foundations that scale, including theming, accessibility, performance, versioning, testing, and documentation practices.
  • Explore and build frameworks for dynamic, AI-assisted interfaces, and help set the standards that keep them reliable and consistent.
  • Write and contribute significantly to design documents, and drive technical decisions through to alignment.
  • Mentor other engineers and raise the bar for frontend quality and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 6+ years of professional experience as a frontend engineer, with deep expertise in modern TypeScript and component-based frameworks such as React.
  • Hands-on experience building, maintaining, and driving adoption of a design system or shared component library.
  • Ability to carry out design system work independently and end to end, including API design, tokens, theming, documentation, release, and consumer support.
  • Experience with frontend build, packaging, and distribution tooling for shared libraries.
  • Significant contributions to design documents.
  • Experience mentoring software engineers.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, and comfort working with cross-functional users and teams.
  • Experience building interfaces for AI or agent-driven products.
  • Experience with data visualization, charting, or map and graphics rendering in the browser.
  • Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
  • FOR US-BASED ROLES: Applied Intuition is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive application and interview experience to applicants who are disabled veterans and other applicants with disabilities or medical conditions. Reasonable accommodations are available, requesting an accommodation will not affect your candidacy in any way, and you are not required to disclose the nature of your disability or medical condition in order to make a request. If you require an accommodation please contact careers@applied.co . We will work with you!
