Site Reliability Engineer Intern

Description

The company runs one of the largest computing platforms in AdTech, keeping its products running on Hadoop, SQL and NoSQL storage, Kafka streaming, Chef and Mesos, Kerberos identity management, Hive, Druid and Vertica analytics, and a large monitoring and observability setup.

The internship lasts 6 months. You join a team of 5-7 people and work closely with a mentor on your project and its design, with best practices applied throughout. You can ask questions and join all knowledge sharing sessions and workshops. Your ideas are welcome, and you will learn to ship quality code that can reach millions of users right away.

The company helps businesses turn shopper signals into commerce outcomes and deliver more relevant experiences to shoppers, using its own commerce intelligence and AI decisioning. About 3,600 people work across offices worldwide and from home.

Responsibilities

• Choose one track that fits your skills and interests.
• Observability: evaluate, test and connect a reporting tool to the existing Prometheus, Graphite, Grafana, Elasticsearch and Kibana stack. Move Grafana into containers and add SSO. Build a log streaming interface.
• Data Processing: join the team building the Bigdata Flow platform and write code that shows users how changes affect their datasets (2) and suggests ways to optimise them.
• Distributed System SDKs: build smart cache invalidation for a distributed system.
• Continuous Deployment: build a mutation testing solution that plugs into the company's CI/CD pipeline.
• Product Reliability Engineering: move the admin handlers' UI to Angular and help build a load testing pipeline.
• Rivers: build a Streaming Portal UI.
• Data Development Cycle: use data collected from all data processing systems to give data producers automatic monitoring, alerting and detailed analysis, so they can find where delays start and design their pipeline dependencies better.

Requirements

• You are in your final year of study in system or software engineering, or a related field.
• You want to build web-based applications and you work comfortably on Linux.
• You have solid experience with object-oriented programming.
• You solve problems, fix what is broken and think creatively about technology. The company sees coding as both a talent and a passion, not only a skill.
• You communicate clearly and work well in a team.
• You speak fluent English.
