Service Reliability Engineering Technical Lead

The Container Infrastructure team builds scalable on-premises and cloud-based container orchestration for trading desks, data scientists and enterprise application teams. The team favours simple solutions built on off-the-shelf tools, with focused engineering where it is needed.

The team is hiring a Technical Lead to help keep a large Kubernetes platform reliable and performing well: hundreds of clusters, thousands of nodes and dozens of components. Day-to-day work includes building new components, tracking costs and making sure each desk uses its compute efficiently. You will work closely with other teams and trading desks.

The team believes in automating repetitive work relentlessly, digging deep for creative fixes, and putting the right solution ahead of being right. It puts customer service to its teams and desks first, and cares more about getting the right thing done than about strict role boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Set architectural direction for the platform and make the key design decisions.
• Set engineering standards, and prioritise and assign technical work.
• Find and remove risks and technical debt.
• Improve the infrastructure, processes and standards of the Kubernetes platform.
• Help business units onboard and deploy their applications onto the platform.
• Present the platform through demos, lightning talks and presentations.
• Automate manual, repetitive tasks wherever possible.
• Give platform users strong customer service.
• Coach engineers in best practices, help them solve hard problems, and set a high bar for operational and technical excellence.

Requirements

• Several years of Kubernetes administration experience.
• Solid understanding of networking, storage and containerization fundamentals.
• Familiarity with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or both.
• A service-first attitude: you ask questions and find people the right resources and answers rather than hiding behind rigid boundaries.
• Strong written and verbal communication. You can work across teams and back up technical and operational points with evidence.
• You lead by example and build technical and interpersonal skills in your team.

Conditions

The annual base salary is $250,000 to $300,000, depending on experience, qualifications and relevant skills.

The role is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
