Description

The role supports a range of laboratory settings by installing, maintaining and repairing advanced scientific instruments, including HPLC, GC and mass spectrometry systems.

You will keep learning as laboratory equipment and technology change, and you will build your skills under the guidance of managers, specialists and engineers.

Beyond the technical work, you will handle service and customer relationships: diagnosing instrument faults, carrying out preventive maintenance and qualifying chromatography systems. Clear communication and a customer-first approach to problem solving matter here, since the goal is to keep labs running efficiently and help customers reach their scientific aims.

Responsibilities

  • Build and keep current your skills in installing, maintaining, calibrating and repairing analytical lab instruments such as HPLC, GC and mass spectrometry systems.
  • Find and fix instrument performance problems through troubleshooting, repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and outside suppliers to speed up service and repair work.
  • Recommend preventive maintenance and system setups to customers to boost performance and cut downtime.
  • Go through technical documents and reports, and suggest corrective actions where needed.
  • Log service requests and activities in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Teach peer technicians how to use, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Follow company policies, including department, quality system and health and safety rules.
  • Meet customer expectations, nurture those relationships and set out follow-up plans.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a science field such as chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, engineering or biology is strongly preferred. Equivalent training or experience will also be considered.
  • An associate degree or a high school diploma/GED plus 5+ years of directly relevant experience may be accepted.
  • 3+ years of hands-on work with analytical instruments, such as spectrophotometers, chromatography systems (LC, GC, HPLC/UPLC, SFC) and mass spectrometry systems.
  • A strong drive to learn and keep up with new technologies and lab solutions.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with varied audiences and meet specific customer needs.
  • Personal integrity and a commitment to quality.
  • Good time management and the ability to rank service requests by priority.
  • Strong advanced troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to write documentation that is clear and concise.
