Description

Process engineers on this team support API and natural products projects from late-stage development through commercialization and the full product life cycle.

You will assess key unit operations, such as reactions and crystallizations, for process robustness, scientific understanding and scale-up risk from lab to manufacturing. Much of the work depends on working well with technical, quality and regulatory colleagues and with on-site manufacturing staff.

You will lead research or project work with a group of scientists in your area, mentoring, guiding and supervising them. You will design, implement and optimize processes for small molecule APIs, antibody drug conjugates, peptides and natural products, from development through commercialization. You will set out new multi-disciplinary strategies, lead your own project and bring scientific input to others.

The company develops medicines in immunology, oncology and neuroscience, and also offers aesthetics products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Apply core chemical engineering principles, including chemical kinetics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics and mathematical modeling, to experimental design, problem solving and data analysis.
  • Act as principal investigator, producing original technical ideas and research or development strategies.
  • Own the project science in your area on one or more project teams, and make substantial contributions through lab or other work.
  • Find creative ways to solve hard problems, and push for new technologies where they help meet project goals.
  • Write new scientific proposals and lead them. Track scientific and regulatory progress and competitive threats, and adjust strategy in response.
  • Serve as the go-to expert in your discipline inside the company and, where relevant, outside it.
  • Be the main author of publications, presentations and regulatory documents, and the main inventor on patents. Present at major scientific conferences.
  • Lead a team of one or more people, evaluate their performance, and answer for how well they do.
  • Follow company standards on conduct, safety, material handling, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, and GxP compliance.

Requirements

  • Hold a BS, MS or PhD in chemical engineering or a related field, with 14+ years of relevant industry experience for a BS, 12+ for an MS, or 6+ for a PhD.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and when speaking.
  • Have deep theoretical and hands-on knowledge of your scientific discipline.
  • Have shown you can act as a principal investigator, generating original technical ideas and strategies.
  • Be recognized as an expert in your discipline, internally and possibly externally.
  • Have a track record as primary author of publications, presentations and regulatory documents, or as primary inventor on patents.
  • Have presented at leading scientific conferences.
  • Build strong working relationships with peers and with partners outside your team.
  • Learn quickly, grasp key objectives and change course fast when needed.
  • Set a high bar and never accept the status quo.
  • Build a learning environment that welcomes suggestions and experiments for improvement.
  • Welcome others' ideas and encourage innovation.
  • Mentor others well, both technically and personally.
