Description

Principal-level (level 3) systems engineer role on the modeling, simulation and analysis team.

The team supports the US Air Force in sustaining, developing, producing and deploying hardware and system changes for ICBM ground and airborne launch control systems, launch facilities and related infrastructure.

You would work on the command systems MS&A operations team for the program.

The application window is estimated at 20 days from the posting date, and it may be shortened or extended based on business needs and candidate availability.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run modeling and simulation for system areas such as networking, physical security and cybersecurity.
  • Analyze end-to-end command-and-control latency, split latency budgets across components and networks, and confirm timing requirements hold under normal and stressed conditions.
  • Measure link performance between system nodes, including latency, throughput, jitter and packet loss, then use the results to find bottlenecks, test design assumptions and recommend network architecture or configuration changes.
  • Build and manage hardware and software computing resource budgets, analyzing and tuning CPU, RAM, storage and related use to protect performance and scalability.
  • Support database management and development work.
  • Support requirement decomposition and traceability analysis.
  • Support MBSE strategy and implementation.
  • Work with subcontracted product teams to confirm compliance with the contract SOW and program model governance.
  • Write content for presentations and present to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) plus at least 5 years of related experience; a Master's lowers that to 3 years, and a PhD to 1 year.
  • US citizen holding an active US Government Secret clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation dated within the last 6 years.
  • Ability to obtain and keep Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a timeframe the company considers reasonable for its business needs.
  • Proven background in math-based modeling and simulation.
  • Hands-on use of MATLAB, Simulink or similar scientific programming tools.
  • Track record running end-to-end system latency analysis across hardware, software and network parts.
  • Background building and managing hardware and software computing resource budgets, analyzing CPU, RAM, storage and related use against performance and scalability requirements.
  • Hands-on work in databases, such as front end and back end development, SQL queries, or tools like Microsoft Access.
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles.
  • Preferred: active US Government Top Secret clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
  • Preferred: background in network architecture and configuring equipment.
  • Preferred: GitLab or a comparable source control tool.
  • Preferred: experience planning and carrying out model verification and validation.
