The lab operations team needs an enterprise systems engineer to keep infrastructure reliable across multi-site R&D labs, covering device lifecycles, network problems, and workflow automation.
You will work with cross-functional partners to keep lab environments secure, scalable, and efficient.
Responsibilities
Handle the full device lifecycle for lab hosts running Linux (Ubuntu or CentOS), Windows, and macOS, from deployment and imaging to configuration and retirement, across several labs and buildings.
Patch operating systems and apply security updates on lab devices so they stay compliant and stable.
Be the first point of contact for lab network faults, diagnosing issues with connectivity, IP and DHCP, IPv6, and 802.1x authentication.
Work with network infrastructure, patch management, and network security teams to escalate and fix complex device problems in the labs.
Register and set up new lab devices and networks, monitor device health, and respond to inactive-device alerts.
Deploy and renew certificates on lab hosts, mainly for 802.1x authentication.
Write and maintain automations, chiefly in Bash, that speed up device registration, monitoring, and patching.
Design and build scalable virtual machine platforms (such as VMware, KVM, Proxmox, or Hyper-V) to grow lab infrastructure.
Provide setup and troubleshooting to several lab teams and programs across sites as a shared service.
Write clear documentation of lab systems, configurations, and standard procedures so other teams can use them.
Requirements
An associate's or bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience plus relevant IT or networking certifications.
8+ years in IT systems administration, lab operations, enterprise systems engineering, or a similar technical support role.
Proven hands-on experience administering and patching Linux (Ubuntu or CentOS), Windows, and macOS.
Skilled at Bash scripting for systems administration automation.
Working knowledge of core networking concepts and protocols, including DHCP, IP, IPv6, DNS, and 802.1x, enough to triage and lead troubleshooting.
Experience deploying, imaging, and managing large fleets of lab or end-user devices.
Familiarity with device provisioning, registration, and certificate management workflows.
Strong documentation habits and the ability to coordinate across several technical teams.
Preferred: a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related technical field.
Preferred: certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Security+, or Red Hat/Linux credentials.
Preferred: experience designing and deploying scalable VM infrastructure (VMware, KVM, Proxmox, Hyper-V).
Preferred: familiarity with configuration management and fleet patching tools such as Ansible, MDM, SCCM, Chef, or Puppet.
Preferred: background supporting lab or test environments with a wide range of hardware and OS platforms.
