Senior Wintel Engineer

Description

You will join the engineering team on a project for a global defence manufacturing client, working as a Senior WINTEL Engineer on several UK projects across systems engineering, infrastructure design and technical delivery.

Responsibilities

• Run system engineering and administration for core operating systems.
• Build Windows Server and Client gold images and templates for automated deployment.
• Write PowerShell scripts that automate builds and routine administration.
• Design and deliver infrastructure solutions that meet business needs.
• Lead or support IT projects covering upgrades, migrations and new deployments.
• Diagnose and fix complex hardware, software and network faults.
• Write detailed documentation for installs, configurations and OS builds.
• Monitor, maintain and tune on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
• Work with vendors and third-party providers.
• Push ongoing operational improvements across the full lifecycle.

Requirements

• Experience providing 3rd or 4th line technical support and infrastructure services.
• Deep knowledge of Windows Server and Client versions 10, 11, 12, 16, 19 and 22.
• Design and implementation of Windows Active Directory, including multi-domain and multi-forest setups.
• Deploying and managing server and client applications on IIS and Tomcat.
• Designing, fixing and optimising Group Policy Objects (GPO).
• Solid networking knowledge covering DFS, DHCP, DNS, firewalls, VPNs and TCP/IP.
• Cloud skills in AWS or Azure, including hybrid cloud deployments.
• Experience with VMware ESXi and Hyper-V virtualisation.
• Experience with MECM and automated software deployment tools.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Azure AD and Intune.
• PowerShell scripting for automation and management.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Desirable: MSI or MSIX application packaging.
• Desirable: SAN and NAS storage solutions.
• Desirable: Linux knowledge.
• Desirable: Kubernetes and Cassandra DB experience.
