Associate Software Engineer

The company has spent over 30 years designing, implementing, training and supporting IT and business intelligence solutions for defense, commercial and government clients.

About 500 people work across 75 clients, with sites in more than 50 US locations and 9 countries.

This role is based in Maryland Heights, MO and supports future franchise programs.

You will join a scrum team building weapon planning software for the next generation Mission Planning system for the Department of Defense, following the SAFe Agile method.

The system uses a microservices architecture, with TypeScript and React on the front end and mainly C for the back-end services.

Responsibilities

• Help design, develop, test and maintain software across the full lifecycle.
• Work with the Product Owner to review and analyze customer requirements and turn them into early software designs.
• Help develop, maintain, enhance and optimize software products and features for systems integration.
• Help document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products.
• Help find, debug and fix issues so software stays reliable and efficient.
• Troubleshoot technical problems.
• Help set up, monitor and improve software processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher, or an equivalent education.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance.
• 3+ years of software development in languages such as TypeScript, C and/or C++.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication and experience working with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, hardware engineers and program managers.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle, including Agile methods.
• Experience with unit, integration and system-level validation in complex software environments.
• Working knowledge of version control and configuration management tools such as Git, SVN or similar.
• Ability to write clear software designs, interface specifications and test plans.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science or computer science, plus 2+ years of related work experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 6+ years of directly related work experience, or 10+ years of related, relevant experience.
• Preferred: 4+ years of software development in languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, C and/or C++.
• Preferred: experience with RESTful style interfaces.
• Preferred: prior work on defense, aerospace or mission-critical software programs, ideally involving OMS or open architecture systems.
• Preferred: understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure coding practices for mission systems.
• Preferred: experience designing, developing and integrating modular software components that follow open architecture principles.
• Preferred: experience integrating software components through standardized interfaces.
• Preferred: understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns and best practices.

Conditions

Pay is based on your experience and qualifications, along with market and business considerations.

Relocation assistance is not negotiable for this role.

To meet U.S. export control rules, you must be a U.S. Person as defined in 22 C.F.R. §120.62, which includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees and asylees.

You must be able to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, with an interim and/or final Secret clearance required after your start date.
