The company builds a search and AI platform that helps people find answers in real time across all their data, and more than 50% of the Fortune 500 use it.
You would join the APM UI team as a Senior Software Engineer, working on Kibana UI components that help application developers and engineers understand observability data, such as the service map and trace waterfall.
You will work alongside engineers and designers, contributing your own expertise while learning from them, on a fully distributed team.
Responsibilities
Build and ship user interface components in TypeScript, React and Node.js that make observability data clearer and easier to use.
Connect front-end work to back-end services so the experience stays smooth.
Run usability tests, collect user feedback, and use it to keep improving the product.
Take complex, loosely defined problems from start to finish: shape the approach, split the work when needed, make the key technical calls, and deliver.
Lead architecture and system design discussions, weighing trade-offs, backward compatibility, performance and scale.
Set coding standards, make sure the team follows them, and document best practices for everyone.
Build reusable components, add automated testing and deployment, and assess new technologies for adoption.
Review code thoroughly, give constructive feedback, spot potential security weaknesses, and work through review findings with teammates.
Work asynchronously across time zones, in the open on GitHub and Slack.
Work with designers and product managers to turn mockups into working components, keep the visual design consistent, and brainstorm ways to improve the interface.
Requirements
Solid production experience with full-stack JavaScript, ideally TypeScript, with React on the front end and Node.js on the back end.
A track record of leading substantial projects from start to finish, owning the design with little guidance.
Strong architecture and system design judgment, including on large existing codebases.
Designed and shipped several UI components that clearly increased user engagement.
You should have experience with AI-assisted development tools, which help you build features faster, fix complex systems and improve existing code.
Excellent written and spoken communication, and enthusiasm for async work and sharing knowledge.
A habit of making the engineers around you better.
A generalist's range and a focus on the people who use the software.
Plus: some experience with Reactflow.
