Senior Transportation Engineer

This is a remote role supporting work in Orange, CA. You will lead planning, design and delivery of mid- to large-scale roadway and highway projects, meeting Caltrans and local agency standards.

The role calls for deep technical skill, project leadership, and solutions that serve the client well.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead engineer on mid- to large-scale highway and roadway projects.
• Guide the technical work and give expert advice from initial studies through final design.
• Review, approve and sign engineering work where required.
• Run quality control and quality assurance reviews on work done by others.
• Build and manage Caltrans and Greenbook-compliant design packages, covering plans, specifications and estimates.
• Prepare engineering cost estimates, schedules and budgets for large projects.
• Explain complex technical concepts and design options to clients and stakeholders.
• Help write technical proposals and presentations.
• Mentor and coach staff to build technical skill and professional growth.
• Take part in professional organizations and support business development as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.
• At least eight (8) years of relevant transportation engineering experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Optional: Professional Engineer (PE) license. If you are not yet licensed in California, you should be able to obtain California PE licensure within 12 months.
• Optional: Ten (10) or more years of steadily more responsible highway and roadway design work.
• Optional: Proven record delivering Caltrans highway or roadway projects. Southern California experience is a plus.
• Optional: Skill in MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D, ideally with experience leading design teams on them.
• Optional: Experience writing technical specifications under Greenbook and/or Caltrans standards.
• Optional: Strong written and verbal communication.
• Optional: Interest in marketing and business development, including proposal support and client presentations.
