Manufacturing Software Engineering Intern

Description

The manufacturing software engineering team builds the software and algorithms that automate product manufacturing and help make sure each product performs well and is safe.

This internship reports to the Managing MFG Staff Software Engineer and offers a broad scope, including building new software and tools for manufacturing equipment and for data analysis, while working as part of a large project team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and test software that controls machines to make manufacturing faster and smoother.
• Work with teams across functions to share project progress and deliver results.
• Present your projects and what you learned from them to the team.

Requirements

• You must be currently enrolled in an accredited degree-seeking program and plan to return to it after the internship.
• You must be able to work full-time, about 40 hours per week, for a 10 to 12 week period beginning in May or June. Exact start dates are given during recruiting.
• You must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Mechatronics Engineering or a related field.
• You need hands-on experience with at least one modern programming language. C or Python is preferred.
• You should be enthusiastic about automation and learn quickly, and be comfortable working on both software and hardware.
• You should work well in a team, communicate clearly in speech and writing, and manage your time and analysis effectively.
• It is preferred that you know object-oriented programming and design concepts and modern programming languages.
• It is preferred that you have worked with hardware control, firmware or automation.
• It is preferred that you are familiar with software frameworks, tools and data engineering.
• It is preferred that you can find and fix software and hardware faults in complex systems.

Conditions

Full-time, about 40 hours per week, for 10 to 12 weeks starting in May or June.

The company or your customers may require proof of current vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID-19. Requirements vary by role.

Some roles are subject to U.S. export controls, which may apply to candidates who are nationals of countries under embargo or sanctions. Where this applies, the company may need an export license, which can take 3 to 6+ months, or a Technology Control Plan, which typically adds 2 weeks. Offers are conditional on approval before the start date, and candidates will be told what is needed.
