The company runs an AI-powered global work platform that lets employers hire, pay, and manage staff in 185+ countries, backed by more than a decade of compliance expertise and local knowledge.
This senior staff UI architect role defines how the product's interfaces will work as AI agents compose them in real time, alongside traditional hand-built screens.
You will work closely with the AI and platform engineering teams and own the front-end architecture and design system. The stack includes ReactJS, TypeScript, Postgres, and AWS in a serverless setup.
You will be an individual contributor.
Responsibilities
Lead the AI-first, user-facing product experiences with the AI and agent engineering teams, turning generative and agent-driven interfaces into reliable, high-quality surfaces.
Lead the adoption of Google's A2UI spec, where agents describe interfaces as declarative, framework-agnostic payloads rendered through the React component catalog. UI is treated as data, not executable code.
Own the renderer strategy, component catalog design, event round-trip model, and the transport layer (such as A2A or AG-UI) that connects agents to the front end.
Define the front-end architecture for scalability, maintainability, and performance across both traditional and agent-generated surfaces.
Own and evolve the design system and shared component library, covering tokens, primitives, composition patterns, theming, and accessibility, as the one catalog for human-built and agent-composed screens.
Drive an AI-first engineering culture by bringing Claude Code, Codex, and other LLM tools into daily work to speed up experimentation, delivery, and code quality.
Work with AI and agent engineers, backend engineers, product managers, and designers to integrate front-end, backend, and agent systems smoothly.
Evaluate and recommend tools, libraries, and frameworks, including emerging agent and generative-UI standards.
Review the team's work against architecture decisions, coding standards, design patterns, and guidelines, including how AI tooling and agent-generated UI are adopted responsibly.
Run technical reviews and mentor engineers on complex front-end and agent-driven solutions, combining human mentorship with AI-assisted development.
Find technical debt and architecture improvements, keeping the system healthy as delivery speeds up.
Improve accessibility, usability, and user experience, including for dynamically generated interfaces.
Make short- and long-term tradeoffs that serve the architecture and customer value. Cut waste, ship small iterations with tight feedback loops, and favor real customer needs over speculative polish.
Requirements
A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on front-end development and UI architecture.
Required: deep, hands-on expertise in ReactJS, TypeScript, and modern front-end engineering, with a proven record of setting front-end architecture direction and making decisions behind scalable, maintainable, high-performance UI.
Required: experience building, scaling, or being a main owner or contributor to a design system or shared component library, including tokens, reusable primitives, composition patterns, theming, and accessibility. This is foundational, since agents compose against the same catalog through A2UI.
Required: experience in two areas. First, designing and building AI-first, user-facing product experiences, such as generative or LLM-powered interfaces shipped to real users. Second, using LLM coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, and other AI coding assistants to speed up the SDLC and improve code quality. You need demonstrated depth in at least one area and working fluency in the other.
Strongly preferred: familiarity with agent-driven and generative-UI approaches, ideally Google's A2UI, plus related protocols such as A2A and AG-UI, or a demonstrated ability to go deep on an emerging standard quickly and lead its adoption. This is a new, fast-moving space, so leadership instinct matters as much as prior exposure.
A lean mindset: a bias for delivering customer value by cutting waste, improving workflows, iterating in small steps, and continuously improving.
A plus: solid understanding of backend technologies such as Postgres and AWS services like Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
Solid knowledge of performance optimization, accessibility standards, and responsive design.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, make architecture decisions, and align engineering with business goals, with strong communication that influences both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus: experience with serverless architectures and growth-focused engineering projects is highly desirable.
