Description

The company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Space Mission Systems Rapid Space Capabilities portfolio, working on the Rocky program in Albuquerque, NM or El Segundo, CA.

This is a technical leadership role focused on high-impact delivery and influence across teams, often with hands-on coding. You will own end-to-end software work for the program, including design, implementation, and testing practices, and keep the work on schedule against program milestones. You will also help set software architecture direction for current and future ground solutions in the group.

The teams build the next generation of products and services for the Defense, Space & Security business unit, serving commercial, government, and proprietary customers in space and ground technology. The group covers the full lifecycle, from technology investment and concept work through proposals, requirements, design, build, integration, testing, and operational demonstration, with solutions that must be robust, mission-ready, and proven in their operating environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and analysis of software systems.
  • Work with stakeholders to turn software requirements and models into designs that meet customer, operational, and performance needs.
  • Direct system-level software analyses that find risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Lead the software team through code reviews that confirm alignment with requirements and standards.
  • Review products and processes against project plans and industry standards.
  • Research and lead adoption of current and emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks.
  • Work fully onsite in Albuquerque, NM, covering development, design, review preparation, customer coordination, and closed area work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education.
  • 10+ years of experience with core computer science, object-oriented design, and software patterns.
  • Experience in systems engineering or software development for space-based or ground-based systems.
  • Experience applying software engineering principles such as configuration management, architecture and design, and life-cycle management of software.
  • Hold an active U.S. Top Secret clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. A clearance that has been active within the past 24 months counts as active.
  • No language requirement.
  • Preferred: A bachelor of science in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science, plus 14+ years of related work experience; or a bachelor's degree plus 18+ years of directly related work experience; or 22+ years of related, relevant experience.
  • Preferred: An active Top Secret/SCI U.S. security clearance.
  • Preferred: Experience with one or more of Java, C++, Python, JavaScript frameworks (React, jQuery UI, OpenLayers, and similar), Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI.
  • Preferred: Experience with dependency management and automation tools such as Ivy, Maven, Gradle, Git, and Jenkins.
  • Preferred: Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with test-driven development, agile software development, DevSecOps, and CI/CD management.
  • Preferred: Experience as a technical lead engineer, software lead, software architect, or chief engineer on a complex software project or program.
  • Preferred: Experience building software for control systems, embedded FPGA, low-latency deterministic systems, operator interfaces, control gimbals, ground antennas, or optical sensors.
