Senior Software Engineer, C++ Vehicle Experience

Description

The company is building a fully autonomous, purpose-built vehicle for riders, designed for AI to drive and people to ride in comfort.

The Vehicle Experience team owns the software that manages ride state and coordinates everything a rider sees and touches, including audio, lighting, vehicle controls and infotainment tablets.

The on-vehicle code is written in C++ and runs under tight resource limits. The team ships select features end to end, including backend cloud services.

Current work includes improving mission handling as new autonomous capabilities arrive, tailoring the cabin to each rider's preferences, and giving riders enough situational awareness to feel safe and informed. The team also keeps raising the bar on performance, reliability and quality.

This is a senior role for an experienced engineer who will build and coordinate some of the most visible features inside the vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Build real-time C++ systems that manage ride state, rider interactions and vehicle control interfaces, tuned for embedded Linux.
• Design and integrate safety-critical components that take in data from many vehicle sensors and systems, with strong error handling and failsafes that meet automotive-grade safety standards.
• Study performance metrics and telemetry to make the software more efficient, debug problems, and improve ride management using data.
• Work closely with vehicle software, cloud, product management, technical program management, UX design, quality assurance and feature integration teams to deliver joint solutions for the autonomous vehicle.

Requirements

• An MS or BS in computer science, engineering or a related field, plus 8+ years of software development experience.
• Deep working knowledge of modern C++ on Linux.
• Practical use of Git, CI/CD and code review, along with automated testing and validation, and experience working across teams on large, complex codebases.
• Experience leading 2-3 engineers through feature delivery.
• A record of building user-focused product software with product managers and UX designers, and turning UX requirements into technical designs.
• Optional: knowledge of robotics, automotive or embedded software, including real-time limits and hardware interfaces.
• Optional: hands-on production experience with Data Distribution Service (DDS) middleware, including performance tuning and fault tolerance.
• Optional: experience with distributed systems in Java, Kotlin or Python.
