Description

The company is a publicly traded (NASDAQ: XMTR) digital marketplace that links buyers, including Fortune 1000 companies, with manufacturers that can build their parts and products.

Its industrial sourcing platform is used by millions of buyers to find and source from manufacturers and suppliers across North America.

The platform is shifting from a traditional supplier directory to AI-assisted sourcing, where buyers describe what they need and the platform handles the matching.

This senior engineering role sits on the team that builds the product experiences buyers and suppliers use daily, along with the AI-powered features behind the shift. You will work with a product manager and with peer and senior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Write, review, and troubleshoot code yourself, and set good coding patterns and designs for the team.
  • Own the design and delivery of features from problem definition to production, largely on your own. This includes AI features that use LLMs, retrieval, and search, built with evaluations and guardrails that keep them accurate and safe.
  • Guide and mentor other engineers on the team, perform thorough code reviews, and raise the standard for how others review code.
  • Own testing and reliability for your work, and deliver software that meets customer expectations and business deadlines.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of software development experience, with a focus on results rather than output, and a habit of shaping the team's direction instead of only building to spec.
  • Full-stack skills that carry over to the company's stack: TypeScript and Node.js backend services with GraphQL APIs, React and Next.js frontends, PostgreSQL, and search tools such as OpenSearch. Equivalent experience in another modern stack is just as valid; prior use of these exact tools is not required.
  • Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features, such as LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, or search relevance. The company hires engineers who build with these tools and rigorously check their output, regardless of the specific framework.
  • A quick learner who works fluently in an AI-native development environment and shares what they learn with others.
  • Strong skills in execution, debugging, and communication, with a habit of writing unit and integration tests.
  • Bonus points: experience with multimodal (image and text) embeddings and search, agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain, and fine-tuning or adapting models for a specific domain.
  • E-commerce or marketplace product experience is a plus.

Conditions

The estimated base salary for new hires in this role is $163,750 to $167,500 per year, plus an annual bonus. The actual figure depends on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, and location.

Total compensation includes base pay, bonus, and equity.

The role is hybrid.

The company is an equal opportunity employer and considers all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.

Benefits

  • A competitive benefits package is offered.
