Description

The company is a global leader in advanced driver assistance. Its hands-free driving technology runs in more than 750,000 equipped vehicles, and those vehicles have logged over 1 billion hands-free miles.

The company aims to show that automated driving can be trustworthy, intuitive, and useful, and to bring new advances to everyday drivers at very large scale.

The team is Protocol Operations & Trust, part of Scaled Engineering Operations within the AV Simulation organization. It builds and runs workflows, automation, tooling, and data products that make simulation testing scalable, reliable, and trusted.

The team owns the full simulation-protocol lifecycle: defining protocols, correlating tiers, creating tests, validating quality, monitoring, maintaining, and safeguarding releases. It works with simulation, evaluation, validation, autonomy, data, and infrastructure teams to produce clear, reproducible products that help engineers validate autonomous vehicles faster and with more confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Turn hard simulation-testing problems into production-ready software, working closely with operations and engineering teams.
  • Build backend services, data pipelines, production infrastructure, and evaluation feedback loops that shift testing from manual work to automation.
  • Automate the workflows people currently run by hand. Replace manually gathered metrics with a pipeline that collects, analyzes, and acts on them.
  • Connect each team's standalone tools into one streaming system so test creation and maintenance can scale, aiming for faster creation and higher-quality protocols that downstream teams can rely on.
  • Own delivery of the simulation test suites that validate autonomous vehicle software. Build on partner teams' test creation tools to produce and maintain tests in bulk, and build the orchestration and pipelines that take a request all the way to running tests.
  • Automate and standardize test creation and upkeep so coverage grows without more manual effort. Use partner teams' evaluation systems as inputs for building, triaging, and retiring tests.
  • Work with Autonomy, Systems, Safety, and customer teams to turn their testing needs into tooling, interfaces, and automation that meet them.
  • Set high standards for code quality and architecture through reviews and technical leadership. Mentor engineers in software engineering and simulation testing practice.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools and analytics platforms to raise productivity, code quality, and innovation in simulation testing.
  • Take ownership of unclear problems, define workable paths forward, and move quickly from prototype to production.
  • Work with urgency and a bias toward speed of execution, without lowering the bar for engineering quality.

Requirements

  • A BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years designing, building, and running production software, backend services, data platforms, or infrastructure systems.
  • Strong Python skills: production-grade code, unit testing, code review, debugging, and reliability practice.
  • Experience building scalable backend systems, APIs, microservices, workflow orchestration, or internal engineering platforms.
  • Experience running cloud production systems, covering deployment, observability, performance, and operational reliability.
  • Experience designing or operating data pipelines and processing systems using SQL, NoSQL, and other tools for large operational, telemetry, or time-series data.
  • Experience building automated tests, validation, quality checks, CI/CD, or release workflows.
  • Ability to lead high-level technical design documents and drive delivery across several teams.
  • Strong communication, and the ability to turn ambiguous technical problems into practical, maintainable solutions.
  • Adaptability and ownership, and the ability to work effectively as technical environments change.
