Project Engineer Intern - Summer 2027

The company is hiring sharp, organized, personable summer 2027 interns who want to build technical and professional skills.

Interns join the Grid Software Solutions group within the Services and Engineering functions and work on real projects with real-world impact, using digital tools hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Work on problems in wholesale energy markets within the Grid Software Solutions group.
• Contribute to substantial projects that affect how the grid runs, learning digital technologies by doing the work.

Requirements

• Be currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program at an accredited university, or in a credentialed software accelerator program.
• Study electrical and computer engineering, computer science, or another relevant STEM field.
• Be legally authorized to work in the US for an unlimited period without sponsorship.
• Desired: prior internship, co-op, or research experience in software engineering, energy markets, power systems, or grid management software.
• Desired: familiarity with wholesale electricity market structures such as locational marginal pricing, unit commitment, or economic dispatch, or with market management systems (MMS).
• Desired: hands-on Java for backend development and Python for scripting, automation, or data processing.
• Desired: understanding of SQL database concepts and use of development tools such as Git, JIRA, or Jenkins.
• Desired: interest in how software improves large-scale grid operations, and the ability to connect power system needs with software delivery.
• Desired: coursework or exposure to energy economics, operations research, or the rules governing ISO/RTO operations.
• Desired: strong analytical skills, plus experience with software industry standards, testing, and debugging.
• Desired: clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical and market concepts to cross-functional teams.
• Desired: creative problem solving and a proactive, curious approach to learning complex, high-availability energy software.
• Desired: a GPA of 0 or higher.

Conditions

Work full time, 40 hours per week, from the office in Bellevue, WA.

Internship runs from May 2027 to August 2027.

Relocation assistance is not provided.

Any offer is conditional on passing a drug screen, where applicable.

• Pay ranges from $21.00 to $36.00 per hour, depending on how many years of undergraduate or graduate study in your field you have completed.
