The role is a Staff Software Engineer position based at 1375 Crossman Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089.
The work covers product and solution evaluation, maintenance of existing applications, design support, test strategy, and CI/CD automation for a product domain.
Responsibilities
Look through the existing set of products and solutions to find ones that meet business or technical needs, and spot where they fall short of customer and business expectations.
Sort requirements into their applicable types, and flag likely solution risks early in requirements gathering, then alert stakeholders and suggest fixes.
Help write user stories for components and applications.
Track and analyze defects in components and modules, and run regression tests so every code change fixes its defects everywhere it applies.
Review defects from past projects and solutions to prevent similar ones from returning.
Find and fix performance and availability bottlenecks in applications.
Run complex maintenance tasks on applications on your own, including corrective, adaptive and perfective work.
Monitor application performance by tracking the right metrics, and analyze logs, maintenance data and performance data.
Assess change requests to decide which are valid and feasible.
Help design solutions so that processes and applications work together for specific components of a product, weighing trade-offs against business requirements.
Turn high-level designs into detailed designs with mock screens, pseudocode and functional logic for specific modules.
Choose suitable frameworks, platforms and environments for coding, configuration and scripting.
Guide the team on coding patterns, languages and frameworks that match current industry direction, and push for scalability and security.
Drive telemetry features by working out which data and metrics the domain needs.
Join ad-hoc code reviews to confirm basic safeguards against known risks.
Build lean code across the product or system, and make sure it meets business, non-functional, maintainability, availability and scalability needs.
Order project requirements into a programming sequence after analyzing them.
Lead the creation of scripts that automate repetitive and routine work in CI/CD, testing and other processes across the domain.
Turn customer requirements into a test strategy, choose and roll out testing tools, and define the scope and method for testing each requirement.
Make sure test cases cover every scenario for product and solution requirements, and drive their execution to find errors and defects across the whole product.
Give stakeholders updates on schedule, health, issues, risks and key dependencies, and input for project plans.
Make sure the CI/CD process is followed on the agreed schedule.
